Push technology allows you to stay in the know even when your App is closed. Rather than pushing every story to your iPhone/iTouch our editors ensure that only the biggest, most important breaking news stories are sent to your device (you won't get a push every day, but you will when it matters). This means only the most significant stories from around the world make the cut. There is no charge for these alerts and you can switch them off any time you choose. Stay up to date without the wait. Send to Evernote. Complete integration with Evernote so you can save stories to your digital brain.
Smooth scrolling is back.
See what you have already read. Headlines turn grey after you have read a story.
Fixed a number of memory leaks in photo galleries.

The AP Mobile app looks good and reads well on tablets and offers a great deal of news and video. Unfortunately, the app has a tendency to hang up and feels a little unstable. Once you’ve narrowed your location, the app compiles the day’s top headlines, sports and even “wacky” news stories right at your fingertips. Stories are presented very cleanly, but it’s easy to find pictures to expand and videos to watch alongside the text-heavy AP stories. The tablet screen is used to full effect by AP Mobile, but the app suffers from some performance issues. Sometimes videos won’t load, and the app occasionally stalls when you try to tap into a story or another tab. Those issues aside, AP Mobile presents a whole lot of news for free, and reading it on your tablet won’t make you crazy. News junkies: This one should be on your home screen.

My infatuation with Evernote is not new. Evernote is my dumping ground for research ideas, quick notes, and web pages I’ve come across on the Internet and want to save for future reading — while I love Instapaper and use it daily (often to send content into Evernote), I also like knowing a page saved into Evernote is there for what passes for digital forever these days. When Evernote announced its new Trunk service on Wednesday, I was immediately skeptical and derisive. As I IM’d a friend, “Trunk? As in ‘Junk in the?’” Evernote has had an API for apps to connect to it available for a while. While the Trunk has been jokingly referred to as the Evernote App Store, that’s pretty much what it is. I don’t, however, think they are copying the Apple Store model; Trunk is more of a way to promote services that are Evernote-ready —

Having made most of my living in the news business, I'm pretty much a news junkie. As a result, I've loaded my iPad up with a lot of news applications so I can keep up throughout the day. I'd taken some pretty strong issue with the failings of the AP News app for the iPhone, but the iPad version hits a new low in design and function. Let's start at the beginning. When you launch the app, you are presented with a screen that has little strips of news on what appears to be a cloth background. Each strip is a story. You can get about six of these strips on the iPad screen. That's pretty silly, since the screen is so large and the strips are so small. You would think the people that designed this app would use the extra space for more content, but that isn't the case.

Consuming the news will easily be one of the many uses of Apple’s magical tablet when the iPad finally arrives this weekend. Whether you’re using Safari to read from your favorite online newspaper or using a native app, there’s sure to be plenty of choices. One of the first native apps out the gate is a popular one, AP News. The well regarded news agency should be familiar to anyone who’s ever read the latest breaking news headlines in the world today. The Associated Press already has an iPhone version available and at iPad launch will give users an enhanced version of their great news app to take advantage of the extra screen space. You’ll be able to enjoy news stories from a variety of categories and also be able to view galleries of photos and videos of what’s happening in current events. Whether you’re in need of global or local

Der Condé Nast-Verlag arbeitet an iPad-Versionen seiner Magazine Wired, GQ, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker und Glamour.

Business Insider's The Wire is reporting, rather humorously, that AP sources have the scoop that the Associated Press is working on its own iPad app. It will reportedly be a paid subscription news app that generates content from the AP and more than 1,000 member newspapers and broadcasters. The AP follows the New York Times and other news sources that are developing applications for the iPad. While the AP doesn't say if the app would be available for the iPad launch late next month, the hope is that its eventual release will generate sales from the three million people who have downloaded their free iPhone app and would be willing to pay for the apps features on a larger-screen device. To get users interested in the app, it may be free upon initial launch. The group already has drawn up plans to charge for an application designed for the iPad, a

Today we ‘re continuing our series called Desert Island Apps. It ‘s based on a very long-running and brilliant BBC Radio show called ‘Desert Island Discs ‘. The premise of Desert Island Discs is simple and wonderful “ a guest is invited to choose the eight musical pieces (originally records) they would take with them if they were stranded on a desert island. In our case of course we ‘re not interested in our guests ‘ choice of music. What we want to know is which six iPhone apps they would take with them if stranded on an island. We ‘re leaving the playing field pretty wide open for them “ letting them assume they ‘ve got WiFi and full connectivity on their island. I ‘m very happy to say that for today ‘s post we ‘ve got Dan Cohen as our ‘guest ‘. Dan used to be a major contributor

Other news outlets like The New York Times, France24, the Associated Press, and NPR have had free apps out for some time. CNN is taking something of a risk in making its offering a non-free download, but obviously hopes its feature set makes it attractive enough. The free (with ads) content includes both video on demand and live breaking news reports, with push notifications when live newscasts are available. The text-based news is fairly standard, with a photo and headline/subhead for each story. Rotate the phone to landscape orientation, though, and you get a CoverFlow-style photo flow that you can navigate to find the story you're interested in. CNN Mobile makes some interesting steps in the direction of social media, with the capability to forward news stories to Facebook, Twitter and SMS. And the ability to upload photos or video (3GS only) directly to CNN's iReport site from the iPhone holds

by NPR finally has an iPhone app, and it is awesome. NPR News [iTunes link], which just became available for download, offers the same core features of other news apps like AP Mobile [iTunes link], primarily that you can browse the day’s big stories and read news articles in multiple categories. However, no other news app is linked to 1000+ NPR radio stations, news programs, and live streams, meaning you can listen to your news anywhere, anytime. The App adds a strong audio layer to the news reading experience. While it’s simple enough to read the day’s top stories, you can also listen to most of the day’s top stories as well. A speaker icon next to most articles allows you to listen in on stories, and the playlist feature lets you queue up the stories you want to listen to if you’re busy, on-the-go, or just need to keep occupied.

The AP Mobile app from the Associated Press was much admired when the iPhone first came out. It was quick and reliable, and at the time, it was one of the few dedicated news apps. Now, after a few revisions and updates which didn't go so well, AP Mobile is still a popular download, but for many, that's where the popularity ends. The newest version, released in June, supports 'push' updates, so even if you are not in the app you get an alert with breaking news updates. It seems to work well, although sometimes I would quibble with the editorial choices. It can be turned off, but it would be better if it could be customized -- only domestic news, or only sports bulletins, etc. By comparison, the Twitter-based Breaking News On newswire now also offers a BNO iPhone app that supports push notifications and some advanced filtering capability; it's

Ok, but local broken for zipcodes starting with a zero
EricG2k8
Version: 1.1
Nice application but "local" is broken if you use a zip code that starts with a zero.. the application removes the leading zero preventing it from finding your proper zip code for local news.. otherwise its a nice application.. Ironically the web version does not have the leading zero zip code bug .. so if you have problems with local zip codes try with safari to get local news.
Great news app!

Version: 1.1.1
This is a great app to quickly access all sorts of news. I'm also very happy that they quickly fixed the zipcode bug!
Great app

Version: 1.0
Downloaded it and am really enjoy all the work that went into it. For some reason, the save feature crashes the app. Not sure it thats my phone or something else. FYI.

AP app doesn't rock anymore
Version: 3.0
Please please re-release the old version. I have been addicted to AP Mobile since getting an iPhone. The old version always outperformed the NYTimes app, which was slow to load and quick to crash. But now with the latest update, AP is even worse. Updates take forever and crash the app before completing, at least 70% of the time. Also, viewing pictures has become impossible, as doing so frequently crashes the app. Before the update, I could swipe through photos easily and quickly. The next complaint I have is a major one. With the old version, as long as I uploaded the news updates before I left the house, I could read them on my subway commute to work. Once the headlines were loaded, without even selecting individual stories, all the stories were then stored on my phone, and could be read without a live connection. This convenience has vanished. It takes so much time and patience to load them, and then they disappear. Additionally, the new format is frustrating because in categories which have sub-headings, such as sports, world, local, showbiz, etc.., the sub-headings are useless, because they cannot all be viewed at the same time. In other words, I have to select "Africa" before "Americas" can even be seen or selected, and so forth down the line. If I want news from "Middle East," I first have to wade through the torturously slow uploads of every preceding page for "Africa," "Americas," "Asia Pacific," and "Europe." Naturally, this is impossible, because it will crash, forcing you to start all over again with "Headlines." The old app was so facile and convenient, I found myself constantly reading it whenever I had a few minutes to kill. Now it is such a pain in the neck that, it can never be utilized for such quick moments. I wouldn't be so disappointed if the old one hadn't been so wonderful! Please bring it back!
I work for the Media! I'll endorse it!
DTNY
Version: 1.1
I work for the media and I sure as heck use it.
Local
DRL_Fenway
Version: 1.1.1
This App is great (Thank you for fixing the local news!)
Almost the best ...... But!!!
ironeyelid
Version: 1.5.1
Fantastic app but
1. Should be able to put in cities instead of zipcodes.... Googling xipcodes isn't fun.
2. Just for aesthetics,,, loooove the hat icon on my iphone but the AP needs to be twice as large. You can't see it.
Two little issues , but it is the best news app.... By far!
Very up to date, GREAT!!
TCU_Wakeboarder
Version: 1.1
This news feed always beats tv news, still doesn't replace a newspaper. If you enjoy current events I would add this app.
Does not update!!!!!
ulmelqlo
Version: 1.2
Chances are when you click on this app you want the latest news. Unfortunately, after playing with it for a a couple of weeks, the news stories do not update reliably. You have no indication as to when and if they are updating, and constantly are left with yesterday's news. The people giving this five stars have probably not been using it for more than a couple of days. You can manually update the stories but this involves clicking on settings, and then update, which quickly becomes a nuisance.
Latest update causes problems
RGloverii
Version: 2.0.1
This used to be my favorite app. Mobile news is very important to me. Unfortunately, AP has released 'updates' that have made an excellent program less and less usable. The app keeps getting bigger, slower, and more buggy. Scrolling is jerky now, which causes this latest update to be even more annoying. I would rather downgrade to version 1.0
Hate it
Newsreader456
Version: 3.0
Maybe I hate these two newest versions so much because I loved the previous one so much. I used to read ap news at least 3 times a day and now I just don't bother with it at all. It takes forever to load anything and now you have to load more pages to even get to the news pages. The scrolling function is totally screwed up and makes me wonder why the ap even let these versions out. The new ap application is TERRIBLE compared to what it once was. TERRIBLE. Content is still excellent, but the interface basically null and voids that. And one more thing, I'd like to see the hat icon back--it was slick and you've replaced it with boring and conventional.
Push is nearly useless
Playtonium
Version: 3.0
For those of you getting this app right after the 3.0 os update to check out the push technologies, you may be sorely disappointed. In the two days since the new os release, the 4 people I know who are running this app received one (1) push notification, all simutaneously, for the same story, regardless of what categories we selected for news in the app itself. Meanwhile, the app itself continues to update stories all day. I would think all local stories would be pushed at least? Nope, just one story about Supreme Court justices was pushed, at 5:30 this morning, and thats it.
Best to worse
Gygfyhgt
Version: 3.0
This went from being the best app to the worst. Total garbage.
What happened?
Sunniej
Version: 2.0
This used to be my favorite news app but since the update it crashes constantly. It's increasingly frustrating. Hopefully this gets fixed soon or I am just going to deleat it. **Update** After this new update the darn thing compleatly crashed my Iphone...and what is with sneaking the adds in? Save yourself the headache and pass on this app.
Intuitive, Easy and Just Cool!
adam378
Version: 1.0
Late Breaking News at your fingertips...this is what mobile news was MEANT to look and feel like...and oddly, it has the "iPod" layout found on the iPhone/iTouch...so looking for different "news sections" shouldn't be too hard. And the local news capability and updates is cool too (as you can set multiple cities).
Dissatisfied user
Misterxalan
Version: 3.0
Well it's laggy. I had it installed for about 4 hours and still waiting for something to be "pushed" to me. Is push not working? Miss the old versions.
Nice app!
taste!
Version: 1.1
It's great to be able to view all your local and national news in one place whenever you want! Simple to use, and not as overdone as some of the apps I've seen. I'd give it a 5 star if it didn't have baseball before football in the sports section. An option to set favorites would be nice.
Wonderful App, just a few suggestions...
Lucas Pukus
Version: 1.1
This is a well implemented news reader, I use it daily and have only a few complaints...
Great, but now it crashes on start up
Jragon
Version: 2.0
Really like this app, but I customized the bottom toolbar and now the app crashes on startup.
Great idea, but still crashy
ChaosRob
Version: 1.0
Excellent idea, good content and very well-designed UI. However, crashed constantly. Please fix!
Great app
Andylew
Version: 2.0
The app is speedy and sleek. Faster than nytimes as well. News and local news updates like rabbits popping babies
Terrific, clean interface to current AP articles
Alderete
Version: 1.0
Before the App Store opened I was using the web version of the Mobile News Network, and it was a model iPhone-optimized web site. This new native version of the application is even better, providing a highly navigable interface to lots of articles in a variety of categories, including picking up local news specific to your home town, and providing great photos to go with the articles.
