It's time to get your plastic out, and your game face on as Black Friday is almost here. The busiest shopping day in the year is two days away, and we have singled out five apps that'll help you find the best deals. When it's not Black Friday, DealNews is one of the best websites for finding deals on everything from clothes to cameras. On Black Friday, though, DealNews has one of the best apps to track individual deals as they are announced. Besides deals, the app also lets you add deals to a shopping list, search for specific products and even pull up online deals from a retailer's website. The best non-deal feature is the app's ability to find local stores so you'll know where to go when that HDTV hits a rock bottom price at Best Buy. Apple's new EasyPay lets you check out your own items at the Apple Store. Apple's new EasyPay self-checkout feature lets you pay for your own items at the Apple store, but it doesn't yet have all the kinks worked out--at least in my experience. The EasyPay feature requires you to download the latest 2.0 version of the Apple Store app. To buy an item, you're supposed to scan its barcode with your iPhone's camera, at which point it's added to your shopping cart. You then pay for your goods using the credit card associated with your Apple ID and iTunes account. Beyond letting you pay for your own items, the app allows you to order a product online and then pick it up at your nearby store. But it was EasyPay that I was especially keen to try out. Over the weekend I headed off to an Apple store where I

Apple recently updated their Apple Store iOS application and it now supports self-checkout at the company’s retail stores. This app now allows customers visiting any Apple retail store to snap a picture of a shelf-stocked items’ barcode and purchase the item with their Apple ID/iTunes Store accounts. Here is what Apple has to say about the app: What’s New in Version 2.0 - Personal Pickup: Buy in the app and choose to pick up your order at any Apple Retail Store. Most in-stock orders are available for pickup within an hour. (U.S. only) - EasyPay: Purchase select accessories in store quickly by scanning the barcode and completing your transaction right in the app. (U.S. only, requires iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S) - Track your stuff: View the status of current and previous orders from the order status section in the More tab. - Additional international support (Canada, China). Also worth noting

The rumored update to the Apple Store app for iPhone, which we noted last week could revolutionize retail, has arrived, albeit a bit later than expected. Apple Store 2.0 brings many improvements, the most noteworthy among them being Personal Pickup and EasyPay services. As reported, the app now allows you to purchase items directly for in-store pickup, available within an hour if it’s in stock at the local store of your choosing. If an item isn’t available, the expected ship times listed in the online store appear to apply. You can also now order custom Mac configurations (with more RAM, bigger hard drives, etc.) for in-store pickup through the app. The other big new addition is EasyPay, which allows you to scan the bar codes of items you wish to purchase in-store with your iPhone’s camera (iPhone 4 or 4S only) and then pay for them directly in the app through your iTunes account.

Apple besitzt mittlerweile 357 Retail Stores in 11 Ländern. Als Steve Jobs 2001 dessen Konzept vorstellte, wurde er dafür (vorsichtig ausgedrückt) belächelt. Heutzutage macht kein anderes US-Geschäft mehr Umsatz pro Quadratmeter seiner Ladenfläche. In 2010, 233.3 million people walked through the doors of an Apple Retail Store.

Accessories can now be purchased without having to hunt for an associate by scanning the item’s barcode and paying within the app using your iTunes account. More expensive items will still need to retrieved by a blue shirt, but the personal pickup option will ease the process by allowing you to purchase orders online for local pick up. In-stock products should be ready “within and hour”, but engraved or customized items will take longer. What’s New in Version 2.0

Over the past few weeks, Apple has made some minor enhancements to their chain of retail stores, making the purchasing process much quicker. Customers can pickup online orders at nearby locations (select cities only), and now, Apple is rumored to be rolling out an update to their Apple Store iOS application to allow customers to check themselves out without the need for employee assistance. It’s unknown how Apple will differentiate between paying customers and shoplifters, but we’re sure that some method of purchase confirmation will be used—and for larger items like Macs, a blue-shirt will be necessary to retrieve the item from the stock room.

The iPhone 4S online pre-order went live last night, and the experience was hectic for me. Sales started about 40 minutes past the original estimate and customers vented their frustration on Twitter. Once live, Apple's store site was quickly overwhelmed by customers as was the Apple Store app. Most problems appear to have been had by US AT&T customers -- Verizon customers, for example, and customers outside the United States seem to have made their purchases rather quickly and moved on. Starting at about 5AM, Apple temporarily switched to a reservation system instead of a purchase system. Apple promised, "We will email you at this address when it's time to complete your order. At that time, you will return to the Apple Store to confirm pricing and plan selection." Unfortunately, many of those reservation orders encountered snags this morning and customers were directed to complete their purchases at retail Apple stores.

Have you tried Apple’s official Apple Store app? It’s been available for free in the App Store for months, and it’s a great tool for browsing Apple’s online store and scheduling appointments at your local Apple retail store. Apparently, Apple is planning to launch a mobile web app for its online store experience. This web app would presumably be based on HTML5, and it’s expected to roll out for users next year. According to 9to5Mac, the Apple store web app will be optimized for browsing and making online purchases from an iPhone or iPad, and the new interface will make the store “experience even simpler.” “Over the past months, we have observed Apple gradually shelving and re-touching a project to replace the native Apple Store application with a mobile web version of the Apple Online Store. Now it appears that Apple is working towards actually completing and launching the mobile version

Seeing as I talked about it last week, I thought I should write a follow up post on what happened. I’m referring to the super-secret Apple meetings scheduled to take place this past weekend, and whisperings of special events, promotions or even a product launch to coincide with Apple retail’s 10th anniversary. As I thought, there was no product launch, instead Apple gave their stores a birthday makeover, a move dubbed ‘retail 2.0′. So, what’s new in 2.0? Um, not a lot really, as all that seems to have happened is the traditional paper explanatory sheets next to all the products have been replaced by iPad 2s. Wrapped in special plexiglass holders, the new iPad 2 point-of-sale documentation provides an interactive experience and the option to summon a real, live person should you need to take the ‘interaction’ to the next level. It’s all very pretty, and will undoubtedly sell more

Apple significantly updated its retail store experience over the weekend, and the star of the show (which you can see more of at AppleInsider) for Apple Retail 2.0 is clearly the iPad. iPads are now in place as interactive customer displays stationed in permanent enclosures next to Mac and other Apple products, where they provide information and retail-specific functions. The new iPad displays are distinct from the iPads on display for customers to try out; their home button doesn’t do anything, and the tablets appear to be running a custom version of iOS software that is specifically designed for the Apple Retail environment. The iPad software displays information for the products they’re next to, including pricing, technical information and features. Apple's iOS retail app now lets customers see store-specific information if they're using it in an Apple store. Following the hardware updates to its retail stores over the weekend, Apple today rolled out an updated version of its retail application for iOS (iTunes) that adds interactive features for users who are actually inside of an Apple store. Now, when walking around an Apple store, users can fire up the app to ask for help. This utilizes the same system the company installed over the weekend using its Smart Signs, which alerts retail store employees that a user needs assistance. However unlike those efforts, users have to do the legwork to go find an employee at a designated location. Along with assistance about products, the app also lists availability for the Genius Bar, including when the next opening is. There's also a schedule of any workshops or events that are going on

Now users can sign up for help with an Apple retail employee or check the Genius Bar waiting time. They can also see when workshops are scheduled. It’s a cool new addition and it keeps things

Apple has updated their “Apple Store” iOS application to now accept build-to-order Mac configurations, and also updates the in-store features, to better integrate with Apple’s recent retail overhaul. The app is however, now available in several European countries, which is new, considering that the application was U.S. only since it’s original release. So, it allows users to customize their Mac orders, but more importantly it seems to now echo the same feature set as the new iPad-based kiosks Apple just installed in their stores.

Here’s a list of where your money will go the furthest. It’s a popular option, especially with Apple’s aggressive retail expansion of late. However, its popularity can be its greatest weakness. If you go into an Apple store during a peak time, expect a large crowd and long wait — and not much personal space. Personally I feel a bit awkward discussing a large transaction being elbow-to-elbow with others. A major advantage of buying from an Apple Store is that they usually have the best stock levels. The device is still listed as “currently unavailable for order or in-store pickup” on Apple’s website, but it’s possible that this may soon change. It’s been just over four months since the iPhone 4 was released, and users have been waiting patiently for the elusive white version to finally be released. Apparently, the parts manufactures are having issues matching the home button to the rest of the phone, and since Jobs is a perfectionist, he refuses to let anything less-than-perfect make its way out the door. Like me, you probably spent a good part of yesterday refreshing Apple’s pre-order page, filling in the information required and getting various frustrating error messages. Besides trying to pre-order the iPhone 4, I spent most of my day at the hospital with my fiancee who was meeting with a couple specialists (nothing major). I frenetically checked my iPhone every 2 minutes or so and tried countless times to go through the pre-order process. At some point I heard rumors that AT&T was running out of iPhones and I thought it wouldn’t be too long until Apple does too. In the meanwhile I had received several tips from people on Twitter telling me the Apple Store application that Apple had released was working great for pre-ordering. So I decided to use this app to reserve my iPhone for pickup, instead of pre-ordering it for delivery as this option wasn’t available. In less

If you’re one of the many that were not successful pre-ordering your iPad today because of all the AT&T fiasco, then their might be some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s official, AT&T is sold out of iPhone 4 pre-orders for the launch day. Your only hope is now Apple. At the time I am writing this, Apple’s website is still crashing when trying to pre-order an iPhone 4. From my personal experience, if you want to get to pre-order the iPhone 4, that was released this morning. You won’t be able to per-order to get your iPhone delivered, however you will be able to reserve your iPhone 4 for pickup. I just went through the process again and I was able to reserve another iPhone 4 (which I’m going to cancel right away). Be careful though, reserving an iPhone doesn’t guarantee that you will be able to get

AT&T has released an official statement announcing that iPhone 4 pre-orders set to arrive on June 24th are completely sold out. Customers who place orders going forward will receive their devices sometime on or after June 25th. "Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We'll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24." Some customers willing to wait in long AT&T lines will get unclaimed iPhone 4 stock on a first-come, first serve basis when it launches on June 24th. The official app, that also launched today, is

By Ben Harvell on June 15th, 2010 Apple Store app hits the App Store to make those impulse buys that tiny bit easier Apple has launched its new Apple Store app for iPhone and iPod touch that allows users to browse Apple’s online store via their portable devices. Aimed to launch at the same time as iPhone 4 pre-orders, most users have had to put up with the Apple’s customary “We’ll be back soon” sticky note for much of the day with high demand for the next generation of iPhone bringing servers to a standstill. The free app offers customers (in the US only for the time being) a convenient way to browse the Apple Store and even access Genius Bar support from within the app. Apple Store is sure to benefit those who take advantage of Apple’s in-store training and Personal Shopping services and, as you would expect, looks the

Want to shop in the Apple Store? Yes, there’s an app for that, too. Tuesday morning, Apple (AAPL) released a new iOS application that brings its online store to the iPhone and iPod touch. Using it, you can browse, reserve or purchase products, make reservations at the Genius Bar and sign up for in-store workshops and One to One appointments. A wise move, putting the Apple Store on the company’s mobile devices. Turning every iPhone into a mobile storefront will certainly do nothing but help sales–and streamline the in-store appointment check-in process as well. At present, the app is available only for the iPhone and iPod touch and only in the U.S., though I imagine we’ll see iPad and international versions soon enough.

It's "pre-order your new iPhone day" and just in time, Apple has released its own branded iPhone application called simply "Apple Store." Not to be confused with "App Store," which houses the 225,000 mobile applications (at last count), this new iPhone application instead allows mobile shoppers to browse through official Apple inventory from their handsets, shopping for Mac computers, iPods, iPhones, iPads, accessories and software. And yes, if you want to pre-order the new iPhone 4, you can do that too. As long as you're running a relatively new version of the iPhone software (iOS version 3.0 or higher) and are located in the United States, you can download the new "Apple Store" application to your handset now. In addition to serving as a online mobile storefront, the new application also lets customers find nearby Apple stores, make reservations at the Genius Bar and register for hands-on workshops and personal shopping

While some thought yesterday's rumor would remain just that, Apple surprised many today by actually releasing its new and much-anticipated retail store app. As covered yesterday on MMi, the new iOS app (creatively dubbed "Apple Store")will serve as a veritable hybrid between a mobile App retail store and a so-called concierge-like service. Available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the app has all the basics covered. You can locate local store, purchase or preorder products, peruse customer reviews, and see what the latest happenings are at Apple. As expected, Apple is making it possible for Apple fans to stay on top of promotions and other in-store events through the app, which can also facilitate appointments for Personal Shopping, Genius Bar or One to One sessions. It isn't exactly clear yet how the apparent support of notifications will work, although it is expected that "appointment reminders" or other pertinent updates could

Looks like Apple has finally released an Apple Store mobile application for the iPhone. I would have thought we’d see this a lot sooner but we all know Apple. Looks like you can not only browse the store, but search for Apple Stores close to you and even make appointments with the Genius Bar. As of now, it’s only showing up in the US app store, so those of you in other countries, feel free to let us know when you see it show up in yours. Given iPhone 4 pre-order madness is upon us, I can’t access the Apple Store to test it so if it gives you problems just wait a while and try again when the the pre-order insanity dies down. Jump to the break to see some basic screenshots, and I’ll add more once the Apple Online Store is up and running again.

Posted 06/15/2010 at 4:41am | by J.R. Bookwalter God bless those rumors, they were right on the mark yet again. Although the online Apple Store is down at this writing after being crushed by overnight iPhone 4 and updated Mac mini orders, an official Apple Store app has indeed appeared in the App Store and is available to download now.MacRumors is reporting that the official Apple Store app has appeared and is now available for download, absolutely free. Strangely, the app is not universal -- it’s only optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch, although it should run just fine on the iPad in pixel-doubled mode. At this exact moment in time, the app is fairly useless, unfortunately -- it just brings up the same yellow “We’ll be back soon” sticky feature on Apple.com, following an early crush of iPhone 4 and updated Mac mini orders overnight. But that should resolve

Called Apple Store, the app allows you to browse Apple’s entire online store and all of its products, read reviews, place orders or pre-orders and also locate Apple Stores near you. More interestingly, it includes functionality that allows users to schedule Apple Store appointments for the Genius Bar, One-to-One or Personal Shopping directly from their iPhone. Here is the official feature list: - See new and featured products from Apple. - Shop the full selection of products available from the Apple Online Store. - Find the latest accessories and software. - Read customer reviews and get answers to product questions.- Buy or reserve a new iPhone with just a few taps. - Locate any Apple Retail Store in the world, instantly. - Make Personal Shopping, Genius Bar, and One to One appointments. - Sign up for workshops and events at your favorite Apple Retail Store. Apple today introduced free Apple Store software for iPads, iPod touches and iPhones that enables customers to shop the retailer directly from the mobile devices. The new application supports browsing and shopping for Apple wares complete with user reviews and detailed product specifications, much like Apple’s retail website. Customers can also create appointments for in-store services such as Personal Shopping, Genius Bar or One-on-One training. Up to now, one could always shop the Apple Store or make in-store appointments through a web browser, so in that regards, the software isn’t adding any new functionality. But Apple’s retail web channel can be clunky in a small browser window, and clunky doesn’t sell hardware or software. Apple products and shopping are as much about the experience as they are about performance and features. Apple could have created a mobile web version of its store, but by building a clean mobile storefront for use

As rumored, Apple has released an official retail store app. Simply called "Apple Store," the new app lets users shop the full line of products available at The Apple Store. But it's more than shopping. You can use the app to read customer reviews, find an Apple Retail Store in your area and monitor in-store events. Speaking of the brick-and-mortar stores, if you're planning a visit you can first use the Apple Store app to arrange personal shopping, schedule a Genius Bar appointment or organize a One to One session. And we thought those vending machines were dangerously convenient. After years of growing accustomed to the easy of "tap and buy" with the App Store, it's a bit frightening to have a Mac mini or the like just as accessible. Apple Store for iPhone is free and available now.
