DataMan tracks your data usage, sends alerts for data caps
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 30 Dec 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Unless you're on the AT&T unlimited data plan, you may be sweating those data caps on your iPhone. If you go over a certain amount of data usage on your iOS device, you'll wind up with overages. Couple that with the fact that our iDevices appear to upload info in the wee hours of the night and consumers wind up wondering just how much data they are using on a daily basis. Yes, you can drill down into Settings > General > Usage to see your data, or use the AT&T myWireless app, but those are slightly inconvenient and don't provide alerts or detailed info. Enter DataMan, which features data tracking and push notifications to let you know when you're getting close or going over your data plan allowances. Does it work? Absolutely. I tested the app for a few weeks and found it quite simple to use. History allows you Read More
iOS4 Updated Apps: Osfoora, Agendus, Reeder, AT&T MyWireless, Pano,
Mini_discussion_bubble The iPhone Blog - Posted Thu, 29 Jul 2010 19:55:30 UTC +00:00
By Allyson Kazmucha, Thursday, Jul 29, 2010 | As you all know by now, we’re still watching for iOS4 updates that crop up in the app store, and as always, if you guys see interesting ones, feel free to let us know.  Here’s the ones we found in the last week or so, and if you haven’t checked for updates, go check that update tab and let us know if you caught something we didn’t! Osfoora has taken the place as my favorite Twitter client (for now anyways). They received an iOS4 update we covered a few weeks back, but this one is even better. It adds full retina display support for the iPhone 4 and boy is it pretty. The whole app got somewhat of a facelift as well. The text really pops and the main menus have been revamped. So if you haven’t updated, go for it, or if Read More

Why Losing Unlimited Data is Good for You
Mini_discussion_bubble NYTimes Gadgetwise Blog - Posted Thu, 03 Jun 2010 17:38:49 UTC +00:00
AT&T will no longer offer an unlimited data plan, and a lot of smartphone owners may be wondering how that affects them. For most, it’s an opportunity to save money. The trick to getting the best deal on a phone contract is to buy only as much as you use. According to AT&T, 98 percent of its smartphone customers use less than 2 GB of data a month, which would be covered in the new $25-a-month plan – $5 less than the unlimited plan. And, according to the company, 65 percent of its smartphone customers use less than 200 megabytes of data a month, which would be covered in the $15 plan. So most people with an unlimited plan now are overpaying for their service. Still, unlimited plans are popular, and not just at AT&T. Perhaps  people use it as an insurance policy. While you pay for more service than you Read More

How To Check Your AT&T Data Usage
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Wed, 02 Jun 2010 23:10:17 UTC +00:00
With AT&T’s new data plans announced and going into effect in less than a week, users may feel the need to do some preparation. Existing customers will be allowed to keep the current unlimited data plan for ~$30 per month if they wish, even when signing a new 2-year agreement. The catch is you cannot get back to the unlimited plan if you decide to move to one of the new plans. The two new plans have a maximum monthly transfer limit that could end up costing you your sanity in overage charges, so you’ll likely want to look into your past usage and keep track of your data as you go along. There are a handful of ways to go about it… 1) Go to www.wireless.att.com/accounts/, log into the wireless area, and go to Usage & Recent Activity near the top of the page. You can also View Past Data Read More
AT&T users can keep unlimited data plans even when upgrading to iPhone HD/iPhone 4G… unless they want tethering. And how to check your data usage.
Mini_discussion_bubble The iPhone Blog - Posted Wed, 02 Jun 2010 20:49:05 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Wednesday, Jun 2, 2010 | The good news is, existing iPhone users with the $30 unlimited data plan can keep that plan even if upgrading to the next generation iPhone HD/iPhone 4G this summer — unless you want to tether, at which point you’ll need to switch to one of the new AT&T tiered pricing data plans for smartphones. If you’re trying to decide whether or not you should make the switch, the first question that comes to mind is “how much data am I using now?” You can find out very easily from AT&T’s website and TiPb is here to show you how. You will then be shown a nice bar graph of your data usage by the MB. Unfortunately, data isn’t available before November 2009, but this is still very helpful information when deciding on a data plan. You can also check your usage with AT&T’s Read More
How To Check Your AT&T Data Usage [At&t]
Mini_discussion_bubble Gizmodo - Posted Wed, 02 Jun 2010 19:35:01 UTC +00:00
With today's new pricing policies regarding AT&T data plans, I'm sure a lot of you are asking, "How can I actually see how much data I'm using?" It's super simple. MacObserver points out two ways you can check. One involves logging in at AT&T's site, the other involves an app called AT&T myWireless Mobile that you can download. If you're planning on sticking with AT&T through the policy changes—a few of us at Giz are not—it's worth your 5 minutes of research. [MacObserver] Read More

45 Applications That Will Be On My iPhone Next Year
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhone Download Blog - Posted Thu, 31 Dec 2009 16:00:58 UTC +00:00
A couple weeks ago I wrote about the top 40 iPhone apps of 2009 in the App Store. This article got quite a bit of success (especially on Twitter) and a few of you asked me what where my favorite iPhone apps of 2009. I’ve had many apps come and go this year so I guess the best way to tell what my favorites are is to tell you the one I will keep with me for next year. Facebook – Need I say more? Indispensable if you have a Facebook account (note: you may want to join our Facebook page). Flight Control – My favorite iPhone game. Ever! It’s fun and addicting. My best score is 357 planes landed. Can you do better? Bejeweled 2 – My fiancée turned me on this game. I used to play it a lot but I got over it. Tap Tap Revenge 3 – Read More
Keep Tabs on Your Data Consumption with Consume for iPhone
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:31:32 UTC +00:00
by It’s no secret that iPhone users are data whores. Whether it’s the access they have to data-connect applications, the ability they possess to stream video and audio, or how they utilize the Web browsing experience in general, iPhone owners as a group use more data than the average smartphone user. Just the other day, AT&T’s Ralph de la Vega put some of the blame for the network’s notoriously unreliably coverage on users themselves, going so far as to say that the company is considering a usage-based pricing scheme in the future. De la Vega does bring up an interesting point, however: Most users don’t know how much bandwidth they are consuming. Fortunately, there’s an app for that. In fact, the next version of Bjango’s Consume for the iPhone will include support for AT&T Wireless customers in the U.S.Consume [iTunes link] is a usage monitor for the iPhone and the iPod Read More

Myth Plausible: Could Adam Savage Have Avoided Getting Busted by AT&T?
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Thu, 06 Aug 2009 12:53:41 UTC +00:00
Before I go into what nagged at me on first hearing this story, I have to say with as much pride as my guiltless geekdom can allow that I am a huge fan of Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters. I’ve been there since the beginning; and it never ceases to amaze me what they prove, disprove, and accomplish against conceived odds. There is also the joy of watching thing get blown up for science. Let’s face it: Nothing is cooler than using high-end explosives to remove hardened cement from a mixer truck. Back in June, one of the original Mythbusters, Adam Savage, raised his analytical ire on open Twitter feeds and found his argument sneaking into mainstream media. Savage’s source of undivided attention wasn’t an urban legend or subject of pseudo-science, but AT&T. Why? Seems that after spending a day in Canada, Savage managed to incur a whopping $11,000 bill due to data Read More
The iPhone: Your Ultimate Carry-on
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Thu, 30 Jul 2009 12:31:24 UTC +00:00
It feels great to be back with AppAdvice. If you were wondering what had happened to me, take a look at my review for TravelTracker; but in a nutshell, I took a Hobbit’s journey. I had been invited this summer to talk in New Zealand on Social Media matters, so at the end of May I packed my bags and took off on Air New Zealand Flight 5 for Auckland. Seeing as I had never traveled this far before, I was working hard my “Travel Planning Fu” in trying to make all of my bags and carry-on’s maximized in what they could hold. Prepping and packing for a trip like this also made me tap into the full potential of the very apps you’ll see me reviewing in my next few posts. Your iPhone, with the right tools and the right approach, can serve as the ultimate carry-on luggage; so before Read More
Hidden Gems: Out Of The Spotlight
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Wed, 13 May 2009 13:04:43 UTC +00:00
I’ve featured several Hidden Gems in this column which have gone to the top of the most downloaded lists after I covered them – AT&T MyWireless, Fluid and Pocket Tanks among them. In addition to a couple gems which debuted this week, including a super cool app that lets you swipe photos or contacts from one iPhone or iPod touch to another, I’d like to go over apps which may have been in the most downloaded lists but have since faded into relative obscurity. I say relative because they made it onto a lot of iPhones and iPod Touches so there’s a chance they stayed yours as they did on mine. But if you missed them the first time around, it’s time to give them a try. All the apps featured this week, except the last one, are free. Fullscreen multitouch image search. AT&T myWireless Mobile is Great for Slow Times
Mini_discussion_bubble App Craver - Posted Mon, 11 May 2009 15:30:25 UTC +00:00
05.11.09        App Score: 7/10    In functionality, , is a nearly identical version of the company’s Web site. AT&T customers (and almost all of us are) can use this app to view and pay bills, view voice minutes and data usage, and add or remove features from their accounts. The first step is to set up an AT&T Mobility account, which you must do online. Then, download AT&T myWireless Mobile and enter your wireless account login information, which consists of your wireless telephone number and a password. The options — view, pay and add/remove features — essentially are all you need to maintain your account. If you decide to add or remove features, you’ll get a brief feature description, pricing info and a button to tap if you decide to buy it. Having the easy ability to look at your usage potentially could be a worth some bucks Read More
The Week in iPhone Apps: ONE. LAST. TIME. [IPhone Apps]
Mini_discussion_bubble Gizmodo - Posted Fri, 08 May 2009 21:40:00 UTC +00:00
Hey guys. So this is my last time doing the iPhone apps column, because it's my last day at Gizmodo. So it's only fitting that we enter the DANGER ZONE. That's right, I'm moving on to other place in the internetosphere as of today (more later), and I will of course be leaving the weekly roundup of notable iPhone apps in the more than capable hands of one John "Mose" Herrman, so fear not, this isn't going anywhere. Top Gun: With no apparent peg whatsoever, Paramount has decided to make a Top Gun iPhone game. Since I've seen this movie upwards of, well, let's just say many times, I am pleased. And better yet, it's no dud—smooth accelerometer controls (with a recalibration option! yes!) guide either an F-22 fighter or B-2 bomber (yeah, no F-14s for some reason) through some pretty intuitive arcade dogfights. Plus, convincing covers of the classic Kenny Read More

AT&T just released a free handy utility that allows you manage your online AT&T wireless account through your iPhone. Let me begin by saying that this app is absolutely fantastic. Any time a company makes it easy and convenient to view/pay their bills, they are top notch to me. This app lets you view your bill, check your usage, and even add features. When you first start the app it will ask for your phone number and your password. You will need to go to AT&T's website to register your number if you haven't already done so. Once you log in you will be taken to the main screen. From there you have three main option: Bill & Pay, Usage, and Features. Bill and Pay allows you to view your bill summary and even view the full PDF version of your bill. This option also allows you to make a payment Read More

Mini_discussion_bubble iPhones Talk - Posted Thu, 07 May 2009 08:42:46 UTC +00:00
AT&T customers can now pay their bill, view all voice and data usage and browse / manage bolt-on features directly from their iPhone with ease thanks to the new myWireless mobile app. It’s about time for this, as previously it required calling in to pay or getting online using a typical browser to do this. So, if you want to stay on top of your usage (especially if you have a family plan or travel overseas), the myWireless app is now available as a free download in the App Store to monitor your usage easily and quickly. It displays all the info and allows you to pay your current bill as well as add new features or upgrade existing ones. As far as user friendliness goes, it’s a step in the right direction for AT&T, a company attacked frequently for its lack of customer responsiveness. Posted on May 7th, 2009 by Read More

The iPhone has been on the market for almost a year and a half, but it took until last week for AT&T to come up with a way for iPhone owners in the U.S. to be able to manage their accounts from their devices. The new myWireless Mobile app (click opens iTunes) is free and provides much of the functionality of the AT&T Wireless website through a cleanly designed iPhone interface. After loading the 1.7 MB app onto your iPhone, you'll need to enter your wireless number and the password that you've previously set up on the AT&T myWireless website. The app doesn't provide for account creation on the device at this time. Once your account information is validated, you're taken to a Home page that provides several services that you can sign up for, a place to view and pay your bill, a button pointing you to a summary of Read More

While I’ve featured some cool apps in this column, for one reason or another, not all of them have stayed on my phone. This week, all these apps will likely be staying on my phone and one will actually make it to the home screen. Just last week I mentioned I failed Algebra II in high school and this week I’m left wondering whether that would have happened if I had an iPhone and this app. That said, because I did fail Algebra II, I couldn’t put this app through its paces when it comes to nasty equations. But, here, just take a look at this: Wow, that looks like some crazy math. Well, honestly, it just looks like a bunch weird symbols to me. If you know what’s going on above, good for you for passing Algebra II. Just because I don’t need that serious math, however, doesn’t mean I Read More

Works fine. How about MMS and Tethering???
miken69 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
Aside from the fact that the app is painfully slow at pulling up data, I didn't have any issues with it. How about instead of AT&T making updates for their apps, they actually get MMS and Tethering out to their iPhone customers? Freakin' ridiculous.
Excellent App. Does exactly what it should.
Xianator 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
Look: folks who want to wring their hands about AT&T should do it elsewhere. I'm no fan, but I love my iPhone, and I want to know what works well with my iPhone. If you don't like AT&T's policies or prices, complain about that on a site for mobile wireless service. Here, talk about the app. The app works, surprisingly well.
Great app...when it actually logs on.
WinteryMaverick 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I really like this app but it only actually signs me on roughly one out of every ten times I try to open it. Really frustrating.
Incredibly useful
QWERTYthon 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I haven't had any trouble with this app, and it helps me keep up with my minute usage and pay my bill on the go. I have a business account, and everything works fine. Great free app.
Too long to get any information!!!
tabarep 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Takes a least 3 minutes to get any account information!!! Do no waste your time!!!
Good
Sfgiantsfan021 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Works good. Just can be a little slow at times. Push notification to remind you to pay your bill would be really cool.
Slow, slow, slow
Oldhamer 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Takes forever to log in look at your account. Just about as good as AT&T service
Doesn't Work - UPDATE
Seadit 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
App seems to work fine now. Good way to see updated usage of data and call minutes, as well as review my bill as a PDF without having to go thru Safari (one step). Should I be surprised? Downloaded the App, entered my info, get a message that "this service is temporarily unavailable"...this from the company that can't get text with images right, and charged me a "one time activation fee" when I upgraded from the original iPhone to 3G S...didn't I already pay that fee once? No vision. No customer service that warrants loyalty...basically a typical corporation!
Has AT&T ever tried to use their own apps?
VeryVito 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
As others have said, this app is virtually worthless, but at least they don't try to charge extra monthly fees for it (as they do for their shoddy Navigator app, which seems bent on destroying the usability of the iPhone). As much as I enjoy my iPhone as a handheld computer, the iPhone 3G is the last AT&T-restricted phone I'll ever purchase.
AT&T
btitusjr 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This app is so slow on wifi I am afraid to even try it on 3g. I really think it's faster in safari to log in and see your AT&T bill. And please for the love of god save my password. Safari now saves my password on your site so why not in your app.
Great App!!
jherrera138 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This is better than turning on my computer and checking online. Two thumbs up. The only bad thing is that it's slow. :/
But now it just hangs
illbits 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
App was cool when it worked but now it just hangs on login. Somewhat disturbing to think the number one provider of the iPhone can't even write a functioning app for the platform. Get it together peoples.
so so..
ileandromp 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
this app is ok, I guess... but it needs work. needs a better interface, save the passwords and a few bugs.
Love It!!!!
GrayhawkJD 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Great app! If you have an iPhone you should have this app. Works great. Needs to be preloaded on all iPhone's. Well done AT&T!
Should be defult app
Jiffer 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This app should have been a defult app from the start when you opened up your new iPhone. I can pay my bill online, adjust my plan and rates, even look to see my minutes and data usage on the go. Every iPhone in the world should have this app on it. I'm making it my mission to make apple put this on every phone.
Remember the password!
Bean Dude 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This app would be *so* much better if it remembered the password. Give me the option to do this. Otherwise I'll just dial & send the following: *MIN# to get my minutes remaining.
Good start but...
Dopeauntsam 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This app is a good idea. It needs to have detailed minute & data usage for each line (numbers called).
So-so
ShellyFM77 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
For the purpose of keeping tabs on minutes and text messages, it's not very convenient since you have to enter your password each time and switch screens. It would be better if it would automatically log you in and by default show the minutes and text usage. Then, request that the password be entered for verification if the user switches to the billing/payments/features screens.
Needs work
MacJoeS 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Couple of things about this app. In typical AT&T fashion, you can't actually get to a Web site or email address to make suggestions.... point 1.
Baddazzzz
WackAssLife 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Whoop whooooop
Simple
WickMeister 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is simple and to the point. I can track everything I need about my wireless account. Works perfectly.
Great job!
GmDude66 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is much easier to use that going to ATT.com AT&T rocks, I would never think about switching carriers!
Very useful
Jasonmphillips 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Allows you to check the basics of your account quickly and easily and even change/add features to your plan. Very nice. I like.

Bad Reviews???
URMUSICSUX 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is simple, effective, and to the point. Easy bill pay option and account view with easy upgrade options. The security on this is app is good as well. I prefer logging in each time so it keeps my acct safe. Those having problems is sad but for those of us who know how to use this app are very satisfied. Also to an earlier review, if u get unlimited data then u wouldn't have any problems. 
I like it, pay bills, manage your wireless account, check usage, what else could you need?
Flash2k 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I will start of with this since I see all the complaints about it. Yes, you have to enter your full password every time just like if you were going to the website on your computer. I have ZERO problem with this and everyone else should as well. AT&T stores personal financial information about you; credit card or bank accounts. Why would you want one touch access to an account that has stored credit card and bank information? Honestly people use your brains, my password has upper case letters, numbers, and characters and I have no problem typing that in on my iPhone every time, and how many times are you really going to opening this app? Do you check your usage 5 times a day?. If you can't handle typing in your password don't even bother getting this app and I also suggest that you think about how secure your information is by storing all your passwords with your browser.
Learn to spell!
Mossman 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love this app. It does exactly as I expected and I couldn't ask for more. I can look at my bill without firing up my computer and then turn around and pay it! Although I doubt I will, I also love that you can upgrade your service through this app. Lastly, I can't help but notice that the only people who complain about this app have a really hard time spelling simple words that a five year old can spell. Maybe that's telling you something.
Luv it!!!
Luv2bowl 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

EZV13 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I think this app is great because it has everything in one place. The biggest problem I was having was going over my texts, but now I can check everything very simply. Good job AT&T! Does everything it's supposed to!
Great product!
mrw1986 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app does what it is designed to do, no more, no less. For all the people complaining about the aesthetics why do you care? This app gets the job done. People need to wake up and stop whining.
Quick and easy access
Bbmykal 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Should have come earlier
Useless for me right now.
trock4u 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The app works great but for people worried about online security is bad, like me I use encrypted password in all my accounts and this app won't remember my password and that's my problem, until iphone 3.0 comes out then we are going to have copy and paste and Problem solved but I think the should allow the app to remember the password.
Needs password every time!
DigitalShamus 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a dealer breaker. I use a very long password for security purposes and a password manager. I won't type it in every time. No way!

It took this long?!
a girl named tin 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
You would think that this should have been one of the very first apps created! Well, it really wasn't worth the wait. Yes, it's simple and convenient, but how can it be so convenient if it runs SO SLOW?! An update to fix this would be nice.
Solid
Interxodle 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm not sure why people are annoyed with the password it's not that big of a deal. Solid app that's simple and glich free. If you use safari from your iPhone to access your ATT account this is for you.

typical att - it doesn't work. i am just waiting for verizon to work with iphone and then goodbye att.
Throws an error
yetsirah 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I would really use this app, but it throws an error because I have unlimited voice. It won't show my text usage because of the error. I can't recall the error number, but it had todo with voice usage details not posted to account. This brings up a frustration within the AT&T website as well. I should be able to see my usage for voice even though I have unlimited. Fix it or tel lme how and I will return to this review and up my stars.
FINALLY!!
bblink 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

Whitacre 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wow, this app is so simple and looks great! It makes ya wonder what took them so long to get something like this out and available. It should have been the first app on the store! God I hate their site, so this is a Godsend! Good job on finally picking up AT&T!
and in the obvious category
halwaterman 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Have always wondered why AT&T never had an app for their own phone? Does everything you need it to, neatly and quickly. Pay your bill, check usage, change plan, etc.
Finally!!!
Henessy 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I wish I could see the actual calls history
Well done, useful.
App Sponge 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application is easier to use than the web site to view your bill and manage your account. Took awhile for it to arrive, but it's well executed. Glad to have it. If you are an AT&T customer who watches your bill, you'll be glad to have it too.
Awesome!!!
Robert Peralta 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

_thon 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was really excited about this....but became disappointed when I saw upsell messages at the top. This app is something that should have been included from the beginning and the advertisements make it chincy.
Nicely done

Easy to use.
LMC-232 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a near little app that let's you access your ATT wireless account quickly. It gives all the informaion that you might need while out and about.
Wish ATT was as good as the app
msidoric 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Dropped calls, missing messages, garbled voice quality, data slowdowns, and abysmal customer 'service' are all reality for ATT customers. Thanks to this superbly done app we can now be reminded of how much we pay for the abuse we sustain as an ATT user. I only wish ATT put as much effort into their network as they did this app
