Instant business cards recognition right on the iPhone!
It works on iPhone 3GS. For older iPhone models macro lens attachment is necessary!
Import contact information right from business card to your iPhone contacts, just take a photo of the business card and New Contact is added!
Business Card Reader takes photo then "reads" it using text recognition technology made by ABBYY and enters complete and accurate contact info into appropriate fields of the iPhone address book.
There is no need in boring manual retyping of all names, phone numbers, emails etc. from business cards anymore!
Recognizes English, French, Italian, German and Spanish business cards.
Added Value: In a built-in browser it is possible to make automated LinkedIn search of a scanned contact and read LinkedIn profile without leaving the Business Card Reader app.
Embedded browser uses the same filtering as Safari: if Safari is disabled this app will also turn off the browser.
Business Card Reader is a great value and excellent tool for business professionals, exhibitors at trade shows, exhibitions attendees and sales personnel.
=== Compatibility Note ===
- No special equipment is required for using the app on iPhone 3GS since its camera allows to take photo of good enough quality.
- If you are using iPhone 2G or 3G, you may need additional gadgets to improve photo quality, such as Griffin Clarifi.
- Since iPod Touch doesn't have built-in camera, it’s possible to recognize business cards only from saved images.
=== Compatibility Note ===

posted by D. St. Charles on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 8:28 pm. At a recent business luncheon, I was handed no less than six business cards from representatives of the same company. In the past, I would have felt overwhelmed with the mundane task of adding their contact information to my bloated database. Fortunately, I had recently purchased the Business Card Reader app ($3.99 on iTunes), and all that data was directly imported, and with fair accuracy to boot. I just placed a business card on the table, opened up the app and centered the card in the camera crosshairs. The app “scanned” the card and saved the information in appropriate fields. It may not be as effective with super-stylized cards, and I wouldn’t want to try it with the Woz’s stainless steel business card (oh, that I would ever get the chance), but so far this little app has been supremely useful. It does help

Typically when businesses decide they need to hire someone, they want to hire as soon as possible. So, time is of the essence in getting the position filled (with the right person, of course). When a single open job listing can yield hundreds of candidates, being able to manage the recruiting process becomes key. Neither companies nor candidates want to be burdened with a bunch of administration. Instead of creating new processes or downloading a bunch of new apps, here are some iPhone apps you might already have that can help you manage the recruiting process. Let us know in the comments below which mobile apps you use to streamline your company’s recruiting process. You’re at a networking event and meet someone who might be a good

Shape Services has announced an update to their Business Card Reader app (Review). While this is something of a minor release, the improvements in recognitions that have been realized since our review impress me so much that I thought it was a good reason to give the app a little newly-deserved exposure and praise. New in this version: Hi-Res graphics for iPhone; Adding contacts to a group; Card Holder contacts sorting. Oh, and let’s not forget – excellent text recognition.

posted by Trey Trawick on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 5:35 pm. Celebrating the release of the new iPhone with your Wii bowling team, you go to a bar to field test Cupertino’s newest device. You sit down at the bar with your iPhone 4, and the cute girl next to you slowly reaches into her purse and pulls out hers. Yours is black – hers is white. Ying and Yang. Being the socially awkward geek that you are, you fumble to make a compete sentence – but words are not needed. She slides across her business card, and you slyly snap a picture of it with your 5 megapixel camera using the Business Card Reader by Shape Services. Her phone number is safely added to your address book without a digit out of place. “Barman,” you say, “I’ll have an Appletini.” smiling to yourself at the clever choice. You hold up two fingers, and point to the lady.

However, with thousands of business apps out there, sorting through the options can be a bit of a task. Below is a list of five useful iPhone apps that will help you become a better business networker. The first step in networking is making connections. So, get out there and meet people! I can remember when I was handed my first business card. I always thought they were used as a means of saying: “Hey, look at me! I’m sooooo important, I have a special card to handout to people, showing how important I am!” Yesterday As I grew up and entered the professional world, I realized that these cards were actually useful, but were a total pain in the expletive. Currently, my organizer has a section devoted to storing/displaying business cards and I’ve amassed quite a few, but I don’t know who’s where, offering what at whatever phone number/email address. I might as well just use them for kindle; at least I would know where they’re not. Furthermore, I don’t carry my organizer with me everywhere I go: Not Me: “Hey Jason, let’s go play a pick-up game of two-on-two!” Me: “Okay, let me just grab my organizer in case anyone we

For anyone who is in the corporate world, you know that there is a constant flow of business card flying at you from every direction and the large challenge is how to keep them all organized. Traditionally, people have used a rolodex but with today\'s technology, making them digital is the best way to go. Business Card Reader is an app that will take a picture of a business card and automatically input the information from the card in an organized format. The benefits of having an app like this are great as you can now have all your business card in an easy to read format. The app also can take that information and do a linkedin search for the person. As for performance, the creators recommend using a third party addon for any iPhone except the 3GS. Without the 3GS\'s autofocus feature, most iPhones will struggle with reading the

We live in a digital age, so why do business cards refuse to die? They're a hassle to store and an environmental suck to produce. Plus, who among us has time to manually transcribe contact info into a phone, PDA, or PC? Needless to say, I was geeked to try Business Card Reader, a $5.99 app that turns business cards into iPhone Address Book entries. Specifically, BCR leverages your iPhone's camera to take a snapshot of a card, then uses built-in optical character recognition (OCR) to convert the image into text and populate the appropriate contact fields. After snapping a photo, Business Card Reader scans the card and adds the data to a new contact. That's the theory, anyway. In practice, BCR requires near-perfect lighting conditions and decidedly non-fancy cards to achieve reliable recognition. Make no mistake: This is a terrific app, one I'd absolutely buy despite its limitations; it's just

For many business people, especially those in sales or executive positions, contacts can make or break an opportunity, job, or career. However, as technologically advanced as our workplaces have become, we still rely on old-school business cards to exchange most contact information — and then rely on technology to try to make the whole process manageable. PC-based business card scanning solutions (such as my favorite, CardScan) convert a printed business card into an online contact via Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and are generally quite accurate, saving substantial amounts of time that would ordinarily be spent keying in names, titles, phone numbers, email addresses, and more. Now Shape Services has introduced Business Card Reader for iPhone and iPod Touch. Can a $5.99 app be as accurate as a solution such as CardScan that at best costs well over a hundred dollars? In this review, I put it to the test. INTRODUCTION The

Normally, I won’t be posting application reviews for the iPhone here on Mobilitysite, but this one is a special case. This one is too cool to only share with iPhoneMVP.com readers. Enjoy! So, have you ever let a stack of business cards get like this? Yep, that’s just 1/2 of the business cards I have stacked up around here. I’ve gone to 2-4 trade shows per year for the last 6 years. Every show, I come back and expect to take time to enter in all the cards I gather on that trip. Well, you guessed it, I never do. They pile up and turn into stacks like this. These are from late 2008 and 2009. I was interested in this software to try to knock

Works surprisingly well at least with the iPhone 3gs

I always cannot keep all my business cards organized, that's why I picked it up today and tried it. Works quite well, requires small editing especially for non traditional fonts
Not ready for primetime yet!

Too many errors after scanning. It gets a lot of the info but misses or missreads a lot too.
Hope updates will fix problems.

I don't know what all the complaints are about? Just downloaded, took a picture while sitting on my couch in low light and it worked great on the first try. I'll come back and edit my review should I have any problems but as far as I am concerned this is one of the best apps I have purchased.
It's just great!

The scanning is close to perfect, it makes very little mistakes and has a great value for me since it saves much time I would spend on capturing data from business cards.
An industry standard business card reader

Requires editing and puts a first name together with last name but overall it's a very useful app especially during conferences. LinkedIn search is a big plus.
Like the concept but..

The app doesn't recognize the company's name when it stands near the logo. I wish it recognizes everything but it still requires manual check for every business card. Still it's much cheaper than its hardware analogues. Would like to see batch processing.
Pretty darn good

Had to edit a few email addresses, the font on the cards was pretty small. Very fast and simple merge with contacts.
Great concept, but...

Half of cards I tried to scan had incorrect phone numbers. Be ready to recheck recognized data.
Dissapointed

This is a cute gimmick but functionally it's painfull to use. Firstly it's slow, secondly it's innacurate (not got one card right yet, yes, I'm using a 3gs, and I can read the text on the photo perfectly), thirdly you need to double check everything. Basically you may as well have typed out the data in the first place, I guarentee it will be quicker.

Great concept but poor execution

Good app, needs a decent lighting to take a shot though.. Recognition is instant unlike other apps. So far so good.

I have tried several of the card scanners etc. This is by far the best app for this yet. Was extremely accurate. If you are looking for a card reader this is the one.

This app will save a lot of time for everyone while we still use paper business cards. Every card I tried was recognized correctly and processing time was about 5 sec at most. This is a KILLER APP!

This works great on a 3Gs iphone and hey it doesn't cost $21.99 and have to wait up to 24 hours for your contact. They did a good job on this one and you have the info in seconds.
Great!!!

Fast and easy! Deleted the other app I found that took up to two days to process. This app greatly enhances business cap of iPhone!
I am very Impressed by the accuracy!

I was sceptical about it at first but decided to give it a try since I really need this type of app in my everyday work and I was absolutely impressed by the quality and speed of the recognition. Most of time it does not even require any corrections. It is unbelievable!
Works on 3GS

Version: 1.0
I think the app has a very good start but you need to double check all the numbers, besides it puts the first and last name in the same field and definitely needs a fix for that. Other than that it's a very good app, OCR does work in most cases for normal fonts. It would be perfect to save images of original business cards on iPhone.
Has potential...

Version: 1.0
This app pretty good for the most part. It puts both the first and last name in the same field which screws up my address book because I sort by last name. I have to manually edit every card I scan which defeats the purpose of this app in my opinion. Also it does have some difficulty with certain fonts I notice. With a few tweaks this could be an app I use daily.
A good solid start
Mike909
Version: 1.0
The app works good, I think some of the 5 star ratings must be from the developers friends since it has a couple of shortfalls.
1. It puts the first and last name in the first name fuels and leaves the last name blank
2. It put the entire address info under the first line of the address so you cannot sort by city in other apps
Other than that it does a good job with OCR reading the text and putting it in the proper places
Works great! It needs a good lighting.
JimmyLarkStar
Version: 1.0
Every 2 out of 3 cards were recognized perfectly. It does some mistakes with small fonts and when logos used as company names. but it can be edited so it saves time even in these cases You can even search linkedin to get more info about your contact right after you scanned the card.
Fantastic
Carlitos_
Version: 1.0
I just got this app and it works great. I only have to make a few edits like moving last name to right field, but other than that, it is accurate and it works great!
Works great when it's enough lighting
JimmyLarkStar
Version: 1.0
I've tried 3 samples and 2 out of 3 cards were recognized perfectly. It does some mistakes with small fonts but it's editable and you can even search linkedin for contacts you scan.
Impressed by the accuracy of recognition
Marge Hall 77
Version: 1.0
Downloaded to give it a try and was really impressed by the quality and speed of recognition. I assume on 3g the quality may be not so good as it needs an advanced camera of 3GS to take photo of a business card.
Good idea and implementation
TonyClare
Version: 1.0
This app will save much time for those who used to type in lots of contact details. it understands all and every card I tried and processing time is very short. This should be a KILLER APP!
