FOR a device that is designed to be used while on the go, the smartphone turns out to be a surprisingly adept aid to anyone working on a home or garden. And with mobile applications now numbering in the hundreds of thousands, the question is not “Are there apps out there to help my renovation/garden project/home-repair project?” but “Which ones?” Below, 20 mobile tools that will help make your smartphone a better “home” computer than, well, your home computer. Home Improvement Paint chips can be daunting. (How many shades of gray can there be?) Rather than attempting to decipher them all, find a hue you like in the real world and turn it into a gallon of paint with either of these tools. Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams offer free applications that analyze the colors within photos you have snapped or uploaded to your mobile, and then display the closest matches Read More

I love the application. The palette suggestions from my photos were awesome. Thanks for making my job more fun!
Impressed
Kalia Jade 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app was alot more accurate than I thought it would be. Easy to use and fast. The match might not be perfect... But it's better than eyeballing it!

HMCSI 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am an architect and after downloading this app I told everyone who deals in color in my field about it. With a quick snap of the camera you can capture colors and impressions that the client has to tie fabrics, carpets and wall coverings with the paint. I don't have to rely on my color memory but have it analytically tied to Sherwin Williams extensive color set. It's great!
Great tool!
toncatruck 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a cool way to capture inspiration anywhere. I don't carry around our paint wheel so this is a fast and easy way to discover (and save) paint palettes. The camera isn't great in the iPhone yet but the designers worked around that... You can rollover any shade in a photo and get perfect color matches. We used it to paint our family room and it turned out great!! Besides, it's free!
Ask Sherwin-Williams
Cover The Earth 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app, the camera pixelates so you kinda have to find a color that's close. The ones in the stores are WAY better. It's more just to give you ideas and have fun. I like how it has the store finder built in. I love SWP!!!
¡AWSOME!:)
SoxFan77 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app. Brilliant idea. No bugs, no glitches, great speed, I think EVERYONE should get it. I love taking pictures of random things to see what the exact color is. My main point, GET IT!!!!!!
User friendly
Mouse000000 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Much easier to use than the benjamin moore equivalent, though the pallettes generated by this app are more limited.
Idea
irix_23 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
great work. we are painting the basement and media room. just add one thing to make it ideal. we already know the number paint we want, give me the ability to enter the paint number so i can get the matching paints. so at the prompt (library and camera give me one more for paint number). thanks and good idea.

Tony the Otter 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a pretty good basic tool. The accent color function is brilliant! However, I wouldn't trust the colors it shows completely. The shadows that come with the pictures are tricky. It may give you two different colors when you pick a section. I would make sure you have the right lighting when you take the pic. Other than that, I hope my customers are more savvy.
Ok
Lectro1 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wish there were more reviews by peeps that don't work for sherwin williams. LOL.

amazing and works very well
Not as cool
Seraph023 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The app is interesting but it's not as fun as the Benjamin Moore app. They have more features and the design is more playful.
Amazing

This is totally awsome.
Not that good
Drewbacca72 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The iPhone doesn't take good enough photos. The recommended color is way off. The app is good providing the Camra takes better photos.
Yayyyyyy
justanothertween 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My mommy used it so I got it and it's fun and I got my doggys hair color. But the pictures are pixelated so it doesn't always work :(
Color wheel
Local painter 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I own a local paint co and previously Worked for sherwin Williams I know the color pallet like the back of my hand This is a good app to get new ideas for accent colors for exterior paint jobs and accent walls on the inside aswell I would love to see a color wheel that you could scroll through and search names and numbers I would never use this app to try and match a paint color There is to many variables in matching paint, light, sheen and calibration etc You are better off letting the pros do the matching behind the counter
More than just proud
SamTaklaa 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
As an area manager with Sherwin. I am more than just proud to own the application
This is cool.
Marcus315 5.0 stars Version: 1.0

GREAT!!! But.....
Rose142 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great tool to use, but always look at the color swatch and compare it to your sample before you buy to be sure you're happy. I love the accent color ideas.
Sweet app
Mike Berkman 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love this app as a quick way to reference colors that i see while out. Oh snap!
One of my faves!
needledee 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Really unique approach to color selection
Exceptional App!
cej2007 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
A brillant way to match paint that would otherwise be difficult at best.
to the guy who said nothing beats a color sample
AKstyle 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
you are stupid I know how hard those guy's @ SW work and if this app helps to prevent people like you coming into the store and wanting their dog hair matched then Im all for it. I use thousands of gallons of SW paint yearly @ I respect those guy's behind the counter. So here's to you, guy behind the Sherwin Williams counter that has to deal with hundreds of matches a day. Now mine come first right.
Great company
jfactor 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
As an employee (ops manager) of SW, I gotta say I'm impressed, what other paint company would make free app like this, Benjamin Moore said they would and it would be out June 1st 2009, search for it, no suprise, it's not there. SW is cutting edge and put ourselves out there to create an app to help people out and let them play around a little, critics don't be so harsh, I call on any critic of this app to do better... We are a forward thinking company and I'm proud to work for the biggest and best paint company in North America and the first to design something like this for the iPhone platform. Remember folks "Ask Sherwin-Williams" TM
What an awesome app!
Irish mike mc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a fantastic app! While matching a colorbon the wall obviously won't be exact because of lighting, getting colors you see in everyday life is wonderful. A great story is that we were at Disney World and my daughter was mesmerised by the purple color of the castle at nite. I snapped the picture and used it this app and found the color to paint her room! I also got matching colors and I wowed my mom who is an interior designer (no easy feat) I had to tell my secret and now she is using it with clients and looking super savvy! Congrats Sherwin! You just won a new customer or 10!
Good color app
Tlow13 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Would like to see the fan deck added to this app or able to search a color family to expand your options.
Color Perfect
PunkinAnnie 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It is so nice to be able to take a color you see and like, and easily reproduce it in paint!
perfect and practical app
achallenge 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
love the idea that I can take a photo of an awesome scene and take it home by matching it to a Sherwin paint color.
Nice!
michaeltg 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
A simple yet very useful and clever application.
Great Idea!
Meridith Scherer 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Extremely cool idea for tool that will definitely come in handy many times. Easy to use and very fast. I like the fact that complimentary are shown as well.
Nothing beats actual color samples
Smuook 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a simple program that let's you explore the fabulous colors of Sherwin Williams. They are simply the best in paint. I have 100% Sherwin Williams paint throughout the inside and outside of my home. However, I would not use this as a paint matching tool. To their credit, they even make a note to this in the App description. I tried identifying actual pictures of my paint and it doesn't come close. Too many variables... Lighting, resolution, iPhone camera, etc. Then I downloaded actual paint swath pictures from the official Sherwin Williams website and the App didn't identify them correctly either. croissant => concord buff cajun red => clay pot Think of this is a exploration tool that will get you in the ballpark. For that purpose, it's a handy little program. I would recommend the developer add the functions to search by color name and code. Also, be able to makes notes for each selected color (where I plan to use it, how much, etc. A paint calculator would be nice as well.
