HOW TO: Develop iPhone Apps With Staying Power

Josh Clark is a designer, developer, and author specializing in iPhone user experience. Josh’s outfit, Global Moxie, helps creative companies build tapworthy iPhone apps and effective websites. Follow Josh on Twitter at @globalmoxie. He’s author of two books, including the following tips from his newest, Tapworthy: Designing Great iPhone Apps. An app’s shelf life lasts exactly as long as it can hold users’ attention. iPhone owners chew through apps, gulping down their content, then tossing them out and moving on. Studies show that the average user never launches an app more than 20 times before abandoning it. Less than 15% of downloaded apps get so much as a glance over the course of a week, and two months after purchase, only one-third of downloaded apps ever get used again. This may not matter to you if your goal is to build one-off novelty apps; in that case, you might even expect Read More

99 Awesome iPhone & iPad Apps You Must Download

Posted 04/29/2010 at 1:56pm | by Ray Aguilera With 185,000 apps and counting, the App Store is a vast warehouse of digital goodies for your iPhone (and now iPad too). But like most mega-marts, the sheer size of it all makes the good stuff harder to find. We’ve scoured the Store, and found the best apps to help you use your iPhone to it’s fullest potential. Whether it’s games you seek, or productivity tools, we’ve got you covered. As it turns out, there really is an app for that, no matter what that is. The iPhone and iPod touch brought back fun to videogaming, with developers focussing on innovation, affordability, and novelty. Touchscreen and accelerometer controls also force designers to think different, resulting in games that are a glorious collision of classic and cutting-edge gameplay and technology. --Craig Grannell Steph Thirion · $2.99 Eliss is the perfect game for the iPhone’s Read More

cky12 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.2
First review ever!!! It got me doing 200+ crunches first time I played!!! I hate crunches but Sarge got me cranking them out dispite his numerous "half" yell which means those crunches didn't count. Between the pullupfu pushupfu squatfu and crunchfu I hurt all over!!! Going to try my first challenge against another squatfu and pullupfu gamer today. If you keep adding voices, features and exercises etc... I will buy em.
Very well made
dguy 5.0 stars Version: 1.3.3
Love how nice this app is. Detailed help in good form with great illustrations. Counts your reps and tells you when you screw up. Nice test to gauge where to start your training. Quality artwork and programming!
Absolutely killer!
Happy Buyer 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.0
I almost did not buy this app but I'm so glad I did cuz I love this app and use it everyday! It truly motivates me! The fact that it actually counts reps for you outloud and automatically logs each session you do gives you even less reasons to not get down and get to business. At first I was not sure I'd like to go to battle w/ other ppl but the challenge makes it all the more motivating so I find myself using the Training each day and then when I get a Challenge I do extra reps I normally would not have done if the challenging feature was not available. The graphs are well done and I just can't say enough good things about it. The tech support was superior when I had a small issue when initially setting up my acct. Overall this app will always stay on my phone "and" be used each day! More than I can say for more than half the other apps I've purchased only to take them off my phone the same day out of dissapointment.
Awesome app!

Awesome use of the accelerometer! Just wish it had a way to work with the obliques and lower abs.
