One of the highlights of TUAW's visit to Macworld Expo 2010 was a pre-show tour of the HP booth on Wednesday, February 10. HP has a long and storied history with Apple, with both Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak working for the company at one time before founding Apple. The company has created many Mac-compatible printers over the years, and has worked quite closely with Apple in recent years to insure that drivers for current and past printers are included in Mac OS X. HP's team welcomed us to their booth as the show was still being set up. Eric Killian, Worldwide Training Manager for SMB Inkjet Printing Systems, showed off two brand-new printers for the Mac; the OfficeJet 4500 All-in-one and the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier. The OfficeJet 4500 is not currently listed on the HP site, but we'll update this post when a link to the new member of

Disappointed

Version: 1.0
For such an expensive app and such a big company they could have done a more professional job. The keys look like they were done by an amateur - all pixelated and grainy. There are nicer versions out there, like the one by Thomas Fors, which has a better look and feel as well as the option for large keys.
Great

I believe the HP12C is probably the most desirable financial calculator around. I was delighted to find it available for the ipod / iphone. Compared to the cost of the original stand alone version, this is a great bargain, and fewer items to carry around.
Ach! The Clicks!!!

Version: 1.0
Dear HP: Give users a way to adjust the volume of the horribly annoying key clicks, without altering the ringer volume.

For the price of new batteries, this app brings true 12C functionality to the iPhone. In vertical mode, HP needs to drop the 1/x and square root buttons and replace with the % and delta % buttons. These are used far more frequently.
Perfect for the finance and iPhone users...

Love it in every way but for the OBNOXIOUS key clicks. Seriously? Did you have QC on this?
Good except for the key noise

Version: 1.0
I own one on the oldest HP 12Cs (as well as other classic HPs ) so I was very happy to see HP enter the iPhone calculator market.
For the price of this app the lack of the option to control the key sound prevents me from giving this a better rating. It's like having an old manual typewriter.
I like the simple portriat mode and the back of the calculator graphic
They need to bring their latest 12C Platinum model to the iPhone as well as other calculators. (the remaining 10 series, 41CX, 17bII+ Rpn 27s, ...)
I'm holding off on getting their 15C because of the price and key noise.
Congratulations to HP!

The HP 12C calculator is, after all these years, still virtually ubiquitous at business meetings, and it's great to have a version of it on the iPhone. It performs exactly as the original, and regular users will not skip a beat in working with it. If the developers read these reviews, I have a couple of suggestions to enhance this already excellent product: First, it would be great if you cropped out the margins on the graphics, effectively expanding the size of the keys on the calculator. The iPhone is much smaller than the original calculator, so recapturing screen territory is critical. Second, although not a feature of the original, would it be possible (through a backspace key or the new cut-and-paste functionality) to allow users to edit the numerical results in the window?
Nice app but silence those keyclicks

Version: 1.0
A good reproduction but the loud keyclicks have to go. The keyclicks should honor the system preferences for keyboard clicks. Also it needs visual clues when you press a key for those of us who turn off those annoying sounds. Other 12C apps provide very nice visual feedback. The portrait orientation is very simple, functional, and useful. The continuous memory and the assurance that the results exactly match the original 12C set this app apart from the others.
Few Suggestions

Great to see 12C on the iPhone! I had also purchased the 41CX a few months ago. I have a few suggestions that, for me, would give the app five stars:
Well Done HP

The HP12C I've used for years is back in an exact software replica, polish logic and all. Thanks for a nice piece of work!
RPN Forever!!!!!!

Version: 1.0
As a veteran of HP calculators, and having owned every financial since the HP-70, I have to say this is the best 12C ever released!! Not only is it faster than my physical 12C, it is always with me. I also like the simplified portrait calculator too. Were education ever to understand that RPN calculators work exactly like a real piece of paper and a pencil, they would be implemented nationwide. Great app, and here's a trick to silence the keys

Just like the real thing, only cuter and cooler.
The most annoying sound ever!!

Version: 1.0
Honestly, the person who created/aproved the click sound shouldn't continue doing so without adult supervision. It's so annoying that I have to mute my iphone (then you don't know if you actually clicked) or use iphone's calc. PLEASE HP, we need an urgent update with some sound options.
Just like my trusty old HP12C

It is nice to see apps being added that replicate tools we have used for years. I have been using the same HP12C that I bought in 1985 and this has the exact functionality. I also like being able to turn the iPhone vertically and just have a simple calculator with RPN functionality.
The real thing...it's about time HP!!

Version: 1.0
It's great to have it a my fingertips....again, without having another device!! Improvements would be that the cal be put on hold when entering help to review manual so you could then return to the exact spot where you were in the calculation.? . In additional it would be nice to see sections with examples for review if needed, that is not part of the main user manual. This could be broken down by sections, Leases, Bonds, Mortgages, Investments, ect....Great App......
Great!

I've had my HP12C since 1991 but don't always have it with me. By far the most useful app I've purchased for my iPhone. Great job HP!
Overall great, but input can be error-prone
Love the RPN
Version: 1.0
Overall, I'm very happy with the calculator - it really brings me back to my undergrad days at Wharton. But, one significant usability issue: I usually have the sound turned off on my phone. There needs to be a better visual indication that you actually did trigger a button, and which button it was (my finger is always over the button, so I can't see that it is pressed). Basically, it would be much more reliable input if some of the design ideas of the iPhone keyboard were incorporated here. But for a 1.0 starting point, this is great. Better visual feedback of a pressed button would make this five stars for me.
Delight to Use (but loud clicks need to get fixed)

Version: 1.0
What a delight to use something that, finally, acts JUST like my beloved HP 12C. $15 is a bunch to spend, but unless you need the scientific stuff, this is the TVM calculator that will end your search for others. I wish I had found it before I had dropped cash on others. With HP behind this, I have the confidence to count on it, and I REALLY love the portrait view with reduced set of (larger) keys for using for quick calculations (and yet still having RPN).

This app works just like the original 12C. The only thing I would like to see added would be a setting allowing you to choose automatic, portrait or landscape orientation.
So far so good. Behaves just like their 12C

I like the simplified portrait mode with larger buttons when you don't need the full functions available in landscape view
keyclicks won't go off

Trusty HP 12C is always with me now

So glad to have my trusty 12C with me all the time now on iphone. The clicking keys, however, drive me nuts. Please give us the option to silence the clicks HP. Love the simplified portrait mode too. Would appreciate a percent key there.
Makes me love my iPhone even more

Version: 1.0
This app allows me to carry one less device. Calculator funtions just like the real thing, and the small basic calculator when you rotate vertically is great for quick calculations. I now wish I could remove the stock iPhone calculator. Only thing missing is a volume setting for the key clicks. Great app!
A must for any HP 12C user.

Version: 1.0
I love having the power of my 12c always at my fingertips, and this app is a complete substitute to the actual 12c calculator. The only complaint I have is the key "click" noise. It is loud and there is not an option to silence or adjust the volume without adjust the phone's volume. Worth the price to any HO 12c user.
