ING DIRECT updated its iPhone app with the Bump functionality, allowing its Electric Orange Checking account customers to conduct Person2Person transactions. As a result, users can simply Bump two iPhones to securely send money to one another. In order to start the transfer, Electric Orange customers enter a dollar amount into ING DIRECT’s mobile Person2Person Payment feature and “bump” their iPhones together to initiate an instant payment between two Electric Orange accounts. According to ING DIRECT, this makes it easy to pay a friend back for a meal and avoid the hassle of coming up with exact change. ING’s research suggests that Person2Person Payment will increase 550% from two million in 2010 to 13 million in 2015. To prove the claim, ING cites its figures which show 200% annualized growth in mobile Person2Person Payment usage in Q1 2011 compared to the last quarter of 2010. As a reminder, earlier we’ve seen

Here are 21 iPhone apps — all free — to help you stay informed and monitor your finances. Let us know which you use in the comments below. Name your bank, and they probably have an app. Most offer similar features, however a couple have some different options that, depending on your situation, could be valuable. Bank of America, Wells Fargo Mobile and PNC Mobile Banking have mobile banking apps

ING Direct is my favorite online bank. They offer decent rates with excellent services. They have been lagging, though, in the mobile banking market until recently when they unveiled a great new iPhone app. The app provides core services like checking your balance and transferring money, and it only lacks a few small options that would make it nearly perfect. The ING iPhone app is a significant improvement over their previous app offering which simply forwarded the user to their online website. Now ING customers will find a familiar login screen that requires a username, picture verification, a few questions, and a PIN. Similar to the online website, you can allow the app to save your username and skip to the PIN when you open the app on your iPhone. This allows for a quick sign on, but may be a security concern on the mobile platform. After logging into the app,

Just a shortcut.

Like ING. Like an app for ING, but all this is is a shortcut to ING mobile. I want an app, but this one needs to be updated.
ok for lite version
ymmmd
Version: 1.0
takes you to mobile site only, so it's VERY lite, but they claim a fuller version is coming soon, so we'll see. This seems to be for ING Direct only, the USA only site not international. Mobile site is awesome so far.
Looking forward to the full app

I am in Amsterdam trying to find an ING ATM and this so-called app can't even do that! This is worse than useless.
No bueno

What is the point on installing an app that serves as a shortcut to a website? Citibank and BofA have a real iPhone app.
Useless

This app just launches mobilesafari, this is not what I expected. I am dissapointed.
Does exactly what it should

People giving this app a bad review are being big babies. The app gives access to the ing website for iPod touch. The site is very easy to use. True it does not let you do everything the website does, but I would give $600 for any mobile bank app that let's you do everything the pc site does.
That said this app let's you check balances, make transfers, find free ATMs, call ing direct. In other words everything that you would need to do while on the go. It is a great app and as it is free every one with an ing and iPod touch should have this app
dumb app

Not bad for a lite app

It is actually quicker for me to use the lite app to transfer my money then it is it launch safari. Also if u launch the lite app, there is an option to locate ATMs without having to log into your account, that alone is worth having the the lite app. It is much better than going onto safari and logging into ing direct. Trust me this is better than nothing.
Dumb app, great service

Do NOT download. Wait for the full app. I wouldn't even consider this a lite app - it just launches Safari. Whoever decided to release this needs a smack on the back of the hand. Bad P.R. In this case nothing is better than something.
Not an app and the mobile site stinks

Not only is this not an application, instead just being a hyperlink to ING's mobile site, but their mobile site doesn't even save your member number like the full site does. That extra login step alone is aggravating and cumbersome enough to make it a waste of time.
The better option right now is just to create your own desktop bookmark to their full site from within Safari. No pretty orange ball logo but much more functionality.
WTF

It only takes you to the web. I want a native app. What were they thinking? I know that they are advocates of saving money, but please hire someone to build a native app.
Wow

I think this is possibly worse than nothing at all. It just opens Safari. Looking forward to a real ING app.
This is no app

Really? An opening screen where the sign in button just takes me to it's mobile site in safari? How is this an app? Now that I've bookmarked the site, there's no need for me to ever open the app. I would prefer a native application, so I'm looking forward to the full version, but I'm quite disappointed that this is actually posted in the app store as an app, free or not.
This is stupid

ING should also launch a Sharebuilder app with mobile trading features like some other apps such as Etrade and TDAmeritrade.

I've been waiting for this app for a while and don't mind being redirected. It's much cleaner than going directly through the internet an actually loads somewhat faster. ING also clearly states in the home page of the app that the full launch is coming soon. I'm just surprised they let the big banks ie: Citibank, BOA and Chase beat them to the punch. I guess they have bigger pockets to launch fully integrated apps earlier.
Not an app!

This app isn't "lite," it's not an app. This is a link to a web site. Save your storage space and bookmark the web site instead.
ING Direct - to their website
keithjmiller
Version: 1.0
This app is actually absolutely nothing more than a link to ING Direct's mobile website. And even that has some shortcomings - I only explored for a few minutes, and already I've discovered that I can't tell my various savings accounts apart (unless I want to go by the account numbers), since all of them are only identified as "Orange Savings" (or something similar) and the nicknames I've assinged them on the website are not visible.
Great

Finally. I have been waiting for this apllication for a long time. I hope sharebuilder could also bring an application like this.
Good, but lacks one thing

Version: 1.0
I've been waiting a long time for an ing app. This almost does everything I want it to. It is perfect for checking my account ballance on the go, or even transfering money if needed. It is a formated version of most things you can do from the website which is fine, much easier to use. There is just one thing. The ATM locator really should use my current location from the gps to help me find an ATM where I am. That would be so much easier than typing in the address of exactly where I am. This feature would really make my life easier.
Works GREAT !!

Version: 1.0
This app works great, so what that it takes you to the Internet. At least it's formatted for the iPhone. There is nothing confusing about this app, and it's FREE. I was able to easily sign on, check my balance and transfer money. There was NO confusion about which of my 7 accounts I was in. I am looking forward to the next version.
Just a link to their web app
halwaterman
Version: 1.0
Thought everything was going to take place inside the app, but no. Still, I've been waiting for ING to release an app, and look forward to future releases. All the basics are here though. You can check your balances (although if you have several accounts, it does not list their nicknames, so it can be confusing which account is which), and ability to transfer money is nice.
Wait for the full app
SterlingMike
Version: 1.0
Well, it does what it says… I guess. That being said this app, currently a 'lite' version, seems more of a placeholder than anything else. Every option appears to just be a link to Safari to the requested info. So, while it does what it promises, it works the same as a few favorites in Safari. Therefore, no real point to it (for now, at least).
I give it 3 stars as I know that ING has something good on the way. I hope that the real-deal will also include info from ShareBuilder, though I'm sure that's a ways off. For now, just get this if you're too lazy to type in a URL.
