Hurricane Irene: 12 Ways to Track the Storm Online
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Tue, 23 Aug 2011 20:13:20 UTC +00:00
by There’s a lot of excitement on the East Coast this week. In addition to Tuesday’s earthquake, Hurricane Irene will likely make an appearance this weekend in the Carolinas and possibly elsewhere. As I write this, Hurricane Irene is wreaking havoc on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, but who knows where it will go? The National Weather Service reported Tuesday morning that the storm is moving northwest at 10 mph. By Thursday, it’s expected to strengthen into a Category 3 storm. Predicting the path of a hurricane is notoriously difficult work. Since things can change quickly, you can, in effect, become your own meteorologist by using many of the same tools the pros use. In this day and age, there are a wealth of online tools that can help you track the hurricane. If you’re one of the millions of people in the path of Hurricane Irene, you might Read More
HOW TO: Track Hurricane Earl Online
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Fri, 03 Sep 2010 00:13:15 UTC +00:00
Hurricane Earl is expected to wreak some havoc on the East Coast this Labor Day weekend. According to the the National Hurricane Center, Earl is expected “pass near the North Carolina outer banks tonight [Thursday]… and approach southeastern New England Friday night.” President Obama has declared a state of emergency for North Carolina, and FEMA has deployed teams to North Carolina, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Whether you live near the National Hurricane Center’s official “Forecast Cone” or you’re one of the 34.4 million people who planned a trip for this weekend, you’ll want to keep an eye on Earl. Here are some resources to kickstart your tracking: Get your weather warnings and advisories right from the source on top of a color-coded map. You can also use the site to check in on where Earl is likely to hit and whether or not hurricane force winds Read More
Hurricane Bill: How to Track it Online
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Mon, 17 Aug 2009 22:06:07 UTC +00:00
Felicia is fading, but Bill is building. Forming early Monday, Hurricane Bill sustained winds of 90 mph which are expected to climb to 110 mph — putting it in the running to become a major hurricane in the next couple of days. The first official hurricane in the Atlantic this season, Bill is some 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is expected to track west-northwest as it builds. Residents of Bermuda should monitor its progress closely, and East Coast residents might be in for some choppy surf as a result as well. Luckily there are umpteen ways to follow the progress of the storm as it develops. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite hurricane-chasing resources here, broken into sections for web-based resources, Twitter-specific sources and mobile hurricane tracking. MyFoxHurricane has been a staple of our hurricane tracking resources for its tracking maps, video footage, satellite photos, and live Read More

Disappointed
Vincata 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
At 5:30 p.m. I'm watching the 11:00 a.m. Update. "WHAT GIVES?" I believe hurricane and tropical storm updates are every 3 hrs. I guess I need a more current app. I'm a little disappointed!
Like to see a radar for Texas Gulf Coast
Texas MikeW 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I like the app. It would be nice for us in Texas to have a radar for the Texas Gulf Coast.
**UPDATE** Sweet! Good Hurricane coverage.
wxboyOU 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
**UPDATE-I love new versions! The new black interface is awesome! I haven't seen that on any other app. Also, i mentioned animation would be nice and now there is! Landscape view also makes it easier to see everything. It is now a more complete hurricane app! Thanks myFox!** I am a meteorologist and this is definately one of the better hurricane apps. I really like the video updates! Tons of images and data. Haven't had any problems with it yet. Good streamlined style! Needs a little bit more though, hopefully more animation soon (update maybe?!) I would def recommend (if you are a meteorologist or not!)
Awesome Job
Tyler T. 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
It is now truly worth the money. The addition of motion on the maps makes it look like a professional site, which I was expecting from Paul and the other metorologists there at Fox.
Great app!
MA27 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great app! Very easy to access the maps and videos. Great tool for anyone living in a coastal area!
Fantastic upgrade
bug or no bug 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Well worth the money! Love the upgrade with the animation. Bring on some more hurricanes so we can see this app in real action. Can't wait to see more video.
Competitive app
HAMsmoke 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
** UPDATE ** The developer is VERY responsive, and maybe has an inside track on getting fast approval from the app store! I promote the latest update to 5 star because every issue that I reported has been fixed. Landscape mode viewing is icing on the cake. It is a keeper, and even if you have another hurricane app, you need this one too. My original review remains below for reference only. GOOD JOB!
Very Nice!
Daylight09 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wow! It looks like there was a major update today. I now have all of the official maps from myFoxHurricane.com. They worked some kind of magic because I didn't even have to download a new version. I just fired it up and all the maps were in there. Dude!
Needs Work!
mmacnadrew 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Short on features like limited views and no rotation. Information is also limited. Maybe in the future, not now. Save your $! I bought this by mistake intending to buy "Kitty Code(s) / Hurricane". What a disappointment I tried to live with my error but can't, this app is useless, as is. Who would have thought Fox would put out something like This?
Save your money
swamijim 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Instead, pony up the cash for Hurricane by KittyCode. It's fantastic. This thing is a dismal disappointment.
Very bad quality
Scott from Dade 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
No live Doppler, very old updates. A refund would be great! We need a 24hr trial before purchase.
10 thumbs down!
CapnGeo 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
About as far from the "real" myfoxhurricane.com as you can get. I was quite disappointed, as the internet site is the best hurricane coverage I've seen. In the iPhone App, the video is often 12 hours older than the website viideo. You also only get a portion of the product available on the website.
Needs work
Rxdiva 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Needs improvement. The app consists of only a bunch of apps. The weather bug elite is a better choice. Maybe in the future they will add more features.
wonderful
Revlin Skye 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app has everything I need to track the storms including videos and national weather service information! I love it! very cool
Great App - Here come the storms!
