Starbucks is going to kick off the holiday season with a special app for iPhone and Android devices that will interact with art on holiday cups at the popular coffee shops around the world. You can see the app in action in the video below. As you can see, it's not really so functional as just a fun way to interact with the company's product. But the app does provide a little bit of interactivity, and apparently you can send holiday ecards directly from the software, as well as possibly win a prize for playing with all of the AR scenes. The app is set to be available on November 15th, a few days before Thanksgiving. This release will end a year of really interesting mobile phone-based initiatives from the company, including that mobile payment app that came out back in January. That app has been used in over 20 million

As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of Dropbox and apps that capitalize on it by tying into the APIs to create interesting new services. I also find Apple’s own Voice Memos app lacking in that there’s no easy way to get those recordings off my iPhone short of syncing (for now). DropVox is a little app that solves this problem simply. All it does it record audio and throw it into your

MyStarbucks is no more. Starbucks rolled out version 2 of its official app today, combining the functions of myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile into a single program. The new app has a redesigned interface with the company's new logo. Performance is much faster and having the Starbucks Card capabilities added to the app makes sense since it's ridiculously easy to pay for your coffee with your iPhone and there's really no need to have a separate app for this. Mobile payments also were expanded to Starbucks locations in Safeway. You can now send eGifts, gifting Starbucks credit to a lucky receipent. It'll go straight to the person's email or Facebook and a QR scanner was added. It retains the other features from the older app such as customizing and viewing the nutrition stats for your drinks, Starbucks Rewards, a geolocation feature, view available job openings and more Starbucks is a free

Apple's new Holiday-themed commercial, 12 Days of Christmas, showcases a different app for each of the 12 days, some free, some for a fee.

The guy from Apple’s “There’s an App for That” series of commercials does a fine, upstanding job, don’t get me wrong. He’s a credit to his profession, in fact, and has become iconically associated with one of the most successful products ever released. But he’s seriously ruining Christmas. A new Apple ad in the series features an app-centric take on the classic “12 Days of Christmas” holiday carol, as rendered with uncompromising unmusicality by the voice that smugly informs us about everything there’s an app for. The apps don’t correspond to the actual items described in the original tune, but instead highlight various holiday-time activities. Here’s how it breaks down (all links direct to iTunes): So all told, that’s $22 for a complete holiday. Is it worth it? Probably not. Actually definitely not. Trust someone who has a whole heap of Christmas-themed apps cluttering up his iTunes library from last year,

Starbucks has finally plunged head first into the iPhone revolution by releasing two official iPhone apps for the espresso generation. While their app focuses mainly on mapping closest locations and includes an extended slide show pushing their products, it's the app that's being used to test a mobile payment system at select locations. Just like the napkins, sugar and stir sticks at Starbucks, both of these apps are free. The good news here is that paying for a latte with your iPhone just became a reality, making those plastic Starbucks cards instantly obsolete. Once you've loaded your card info into the app a unique bar code becomes available for scanning right from your iPhone. Simply hold your phone up to a dedicated scanning device near the store's register and it's go time. The bad news is that only 16 select locations in Seattle and the Silicon Valley are part of the

Two official apps devoted to helping you locate and pay for Starbucks coffee have just hit the App Store. The apps will be in competition with several unofficial apps made by third parties that perform similar functions. The first app, called myStarbucks, helps you locate the nearest Starbucks location, as well as search for individual information like hours and available amenities like drive-thru windows. It also includes a full menu and nutrition information for all of their drinks, food, and coffee beans, as well as a “drink builder” that lets you chose each ingredient and check it’s nutrition facts. It’s available in the App Store for free. The second app, called Starbucks Card Mobile, lets you check your Starbucks membership card status from your iPhone. According to a Starbucks spokeswoman, it will also display a scannable bar code that will be valid in 16 regions in Seattle and the Bay Area

by Starbucks and the iPhone are sort of the perfect combination. You can browse the web for free on the AT&T hotspots, you can buy in-store songs from iTunes right from your phone, and now you can use two new official iPhone apps. Now available in the App Store, myStarbucks (iTunes Link) and Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes Link) let users find their nearest Starbucks and manage their Starbucks Card. If you live near one of 16 stores in the Seattle or Bay Area, you can even pay for your purchases with the Starbucks Card Mobile app via barcode. Starbucks is a little late to the store-locator game, as a number of unofficial applications — both free and paid — already exist to show store locations or keep track of your Starbucks Card balance, but the official apps offer a lot of functionality, great design, and an unbeatable price — free. Coffee lovers with overstuffed wallets rejoice: You can now pay for your Starbucks coffee with your Starbucks Card without actually using a physical card. There’s a catch — you’ll need an iPhone. But if you have one, you can now pay with Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes link), a new app now available as a free download from the App Store. Before you head out the door with your iPhone in hand to try this out, check a map and make sure you’re currently located in Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, or San Jose in California, or Seattle in Washington. If you’re anywhere else, you’re going to be disappointed, since those are the locations of the stores participating in the pilot test program of the new payment method. In the 16 stores that are accepting payment via iPhone in the cities I just mentioned, it works like this: You add a Starbucks card

The Microsoft of the coffee biz, Starbucks, announced this morning that they've introduced two new iPhone / iPod touch apps to help customers make the most of their coffee addiction. myStarbucks and the Starbucks Card Mobile App [iTunes links] are free apps available in the iTunes App Store today. These apps were the subject of much speculation, particularly in the Mac Rumors forums, after Phil Schiller showed the myStarbucks app on the screen at the September 9th, 2009 "It's Only Rock and Roll" music event. While the company could have combined the two apps into one monster app, it's apparent that they're for two very different purposes. myStarbucks is primarily targeted at finding stores (as if there isn't one on every street corner in America...) and educating consumers about the drinks and food items available in those stores. The Starbucks Card Mobile App, on the other hand, is pointed towards the

Starbucks, an international chain of coffee shops that usually have highly attractive young women serving coffee that can no longer be called coffee since so many additional mystical, magical, and foreign substances have been added to it, has released two iPhone applications. The first is called “myStarbucks” [iTunes link] and it can be used to find your local Starbucks, create drinks that have more names than a four time married Mexican priest, and also has the ability put a look of terror on your face by displaying nutritional information of your daily poison of choice. That’s the boring one. The second app is called “Starbucks Card Mobile” [iTunes link] and allows you to pay for your distilled capitalistic brew with your iPhone, along with viewing your transaction history and allowing you to top up your Starbucks card with your credit card. It isn’t a very complicated concept: you simply enter your

Starbucks just launched two iPhone apps. One app, myStarbucks, allows users to find stores, build drinks, and browse the coffee chain's menu and find nutritional information. While this is interesting, the second app is far more exciting. Starbucks Card Mobile gives users a virtual Starbucks Card and in 16 select stores in Silicon Valley and Seattle, users will be able to use this app to pay for their drinks. The app will display a barcode that the baristas at these stores will be able to scan. In addition, the mobile payment app will also allow users to check their card's balance, reload it with any major credit card, and view their transaction history. For now, this feature will only be available in these two test markets, which, according to Starbucks, were chosen because of the high usage rates of iPhones and Starbucks' loyalty cards. After this trial, Starbucks will decide whether

Just downloaded the latest version,,,
Store locations are still WAY off. (and I am in the US!)
Don't understand how this is possible when the the iPhone's built in map/search feature locates the stores accurately.
Does Starbucks even know where their stores are?!?
Pygmy Enygma
Apparently not. The pins on the map are consistently in the wrong spot -- at least for att the SB in my neighborhood... I would not want to rely on this app to find a SB if I was traveling...
Awesome app!!
EagleFive
Does everything it says - except that it didn't show the correct location on the map with the correct address for the store nearest to me.
Store Locations are not Correct
caffeine-addict
Version: 1.1
I had to delete this off my iPhone. Twice in different cities I searched for stores that were in the incorrect location. Had to use the Around Me app to find a Starbucks. Example - Camas, WA. The Riverstone Marketpalace Starbucks is listed about 5 miles from where it is actually located. Luckily, there is a Starbucks in the same strip mall in a QFC grocery store. It was listed in the correct spot, but the stand-alone store was not.
Info's not accurate...what a waste of space
ChaI addict
Version: 1.1
Really said when a company can't give you accurate information about where their store are located and when they're open. Just tried three stores that came up on the map. One marked open didn't exist. Another was marked open, wasn't. A third store (company-owned) we drove by wasn't even listed.
This app needs to be taken seriously by starbucks or don't bother.
hmmm?
kay-kay#1
Yah i got this app and it didnt go on my ipod? lately some apps havent been going on my ipod or relly install completely
Re: javy1203
Sexy saber killer
That's a terrible idea, it would complety change every store to cause more traffic, more wasted product and more upset baristas, before you vomit out a other terrible idea please re think all the little things, that will never happen just for a little app.
Try calling in starbucks and getting a drink made, it doesn't happen.
Also the stores hours are completly off,
For a fact I know a certain store is not open 24 hours.
This app is garbage.
Pointless
Basia19
Yippee...I created my favorite coffee on the app. So now what? I can't send the order in to the nearest Starbux. And I use Around Me to find the nearest Starbux. This app is pointless.
Don't trust this app!!!!!!!
ItchyMacPherson
I would give this a zero stars if it were possible. Anyone that gives this more than one star, or says that it's "great" or "awesome" obviously hasn't encountered the GROSS inaccuracies of this app. It doesn't show one of the busiest Starbucks in an area that has been open for five years!!! It also shows the one in a Bass Pro Shops about two miles away from it's actual location. - Lame and useless. - Sounds like they didn't get it right all around the country this same way. What bonehead rushed to launch this app before verifying it gave accurate information? If Starbucks can't get it's "poop-in-a-group" and doesn't even know where it's own stores are, when they are actually open or what amenities they actually have - then maybe they're just too big for their britches now and it's time for me to switch to someone that still cares about customer service like Peaberry's or someone else. Starbucks, you really blew it with this one!
It's about time
Dgmastersusa
I've been waiting for a official starbucks app. And they did not disapoint. I'm stoked!!! Great app
Not for everyone
matt1960
I have a Duetto card and a Starbucks Gold card. I can't use either one with this app, so it's of no use to me. Too bad, as it seems like a good idea. Just poor implementation.
Has potential...
lpotr4
The app deliver what it promises, the ability to lookup SB items, and create your custom drinks is nice. What would make it even nicer is if these custom drinks you've created would actually have a computed nutritional info to go along with it. Also a wishlist is the ability to send your custom drinks as an order to your nearby Starbucks for pickup (or even paid via the app using SB cards or another credit card). Lastly, I gave the app a 3-star rating (and deletd it off the phone) because it is unstable, it crashed and then froze on relaunch on my 3GS after I dismissed the dialogue box asking if I wanted to add a custom drink. I'll reinstall back the app and update my review when the crashing issue is addressed.
Perfect
Boom boom star
Perfect app, it does everything I want.
My review and suggestions.
Coffee-mug
Hello Starbucks Coffee Company! I absolutely love this app! it has everything!! Very nice look to it too.
My suggestions:
Built-in map so you don't have to leave the app.
And bug fixes. When I try to add a topping to my cold coffee, it doesn't go on...
Inaccurate
tracey327
This app shows incorrect information about specific stores. In fact, for the store who's drive-thru I waited in and ordered from today, this app shows as closed and no other info. Useless if it can't even provide accurate store info.
Just awful
Jon47
To answer all the questions posed in the trite marketing spiel: no. I would never want to do anything this app offers, and if I did there are other native applications that do it better. Simply terrible, all the great scores reinforces my belief that app store reviews are all written by schills.
FINALLY!!!!!!!
cruellag
I have been waiting for this app for soo long!! We finally have our very own Starbucks app!! It is great, has tons of options, and is user friendly!! Thanks!!
Perfection
buffster2
The most productive app ever!!! Way to go Starbucks!! Thank you!!!
Ok
LadyDeath
It's a great app, but it is a little buggy for me. A few times I got kicked out when I was creating my drinks or adding locations. And it didn't save the stuff I did for a few items. A little annoying, but overall, when it works, I like the app.
Beautiful and well made
DS Leadfoot
This app is worthy of 5 stars, but has a couple of issues:
Can't Use with Duetto Card?
mpeacock
None of the functionality works for me. I can't sign into my Starbucks account -- gives me an "unexpected error" -- and can't add my Duetto Visa card to the app.
Lot's of wrong information
f205
There is no 24hr open Starbucks in LA... How is that possible that this app claims there are some? We went to two of them and they were closed. Get your information straight. Plus we need a review option. The giant starbucks on melrose doesn't have any restrooms... People should know this...
God
Dirty_Ridin_Spyder
Starbucks, I pray to you. Please give me good life. Amen.
Good first app
Jake_Rasmussen
This is a good first app for Starbucks Coffee Company. I am a proud partner and this is a good app to start with. We love sharing knowledge about the finest coffees in the world!
Cool app
Guero06
What a cool app! I used to work for starbucks and it's basically along the same guidelines of how each drink is suppose to be made hell they could train new employees with this app
Where??
Jfos27
Can't really trust this app as it lists the nearest starbucks as being in the middle of a dump in the middle of a desert. Meanwhile the real location is actually 5 miles away.
do we really two separate apps?
ret63
I love Starbucks ...but do we really two separate apps? one for stores and one for cards?
Well made app, but misses focus on important things
First of all, what took Starbucks so long to do this? There's been apps for other mobile platforms - by Starbucks, Inc. - for a while now. They didn't think the iPhone was the logical first place to be?? Be that as it may, the app is well-written; whoever they hired did an excellent job and "gets" the platform. So in that, it's very well done.
Finally, the authoritative source for store info!
Sugartastic Kellie Schizzle
Beautiful app with all the pertinent info I need to find me some Starbucks! Great feature set for revision 1, can't wait for revision 2!
Hmmm
Bluenoser 'n Denver
Ok it has features, but why can't I send my drink to my starbucks location? Why are there two apps?
Need more info!!!!
ACFG
I was reallllly hoping to get a key of sorts as to the Sbux terminology for ordering. For example, what the heck does "upside down" mean? Sorely disappointed that definitions/explanations are missing. I would like to expand my knowledge as to what my options are when ordering. Add definitions and I give it 5 stars. Thanks!
Why do I need a 2nd Starbucks app just to check my balance?
KH-NY
They should have put the "check balance" feature into this app- as it is, you need an additional Starbucks app to do this. Using up two app slots just for basic functionality makes no sense at all.
my wish came true!!
Sushi Pirate
i have been waiting for an app like this, i've been using various apps that are similar to this one but this has been the best app so far, so easy to use and there are so many selections to choose from, and most of all its FREE!! good job!
Tool In Chief
