If there's anything that I love writing about, it's writing apps. I'm constantly looking for new and useful apps that will let me write on any device at any time, and keep all of the devices nicely in sync. For that reason, when I heard about My Writing Nook for iPad (US$4.99) and the iPhone / iPod touch version called simply My Writing Nook ($2.99), I immediately contacted developer PT Software Solutions to give it a try. What I found is an uncomplicated app that is perfect for writing manuscripts from any device. Like many of the apps that I wrote about last year in preparation for NaNoWriMo, My Writing Nook is best for producing large quantities of text without worrying about formatting. The interface is spare, and for situations where you're just concerned about committing as many words as possible to virtual paper, that's what many writers want. In the

Good, but...

It took me several tries and three lost pages to figure out that you must first name the "document" for it to begin counting words or save anything that is written.
Love it

This is a great light and easy to use app. Initially I was having great problems syncing, but one e-mail to the the developers solved it all. Great support! 4 stars to the app, but 5 stars because of the support.
Great.

As a writer, this app really works for me. It let's me write anywhere and anytime without having to lug around my laptop. And when I get to an area with wifi, I can sync it with my google account and view the docs on my computer. I recommend this app for every writer!
Excellent

It is portable, transferable and easy to use. This app is incredibly useful, I highly recommend it.
The old logo was way better

The new logo is super ugly
Great interface + cust. service, but don't trust with sensitive data!

Let me say first off that I really like the look and feel of this app. It's very user friendly and it works well. Not only that, but Peter, the creator, is quick to answer questions and get back to you with any issues. So I'm not trying to bash this product...I really wanted to make it work.
But here is my experience: Yesterday, I worked on two documents from the web app, saved them and when I went to my iPhone app later, I found that one of the documents overwrote the other one instead of updating itself! Maybe Peter will solve this issue, whatever could have possibly done that, but my one document is gone forever. And because unlike Simplenote and Elements there is no way to sync with your desktop, it truly is gone.
The plan for My Writing Nook (as Peter tells me) is to create more functionality in downloading files, so you can download everything at once...I think Simplenote's model (as one example) is better in allowing you to roll back versions as well as have a desktop sync, two ways to deal with problems like this without having to remember backing up. (Note: I don't use Simplenote...I'm just going off what I've read of the functionality.)
To add insult to injury, I asked Peter to delete my account and he said he can't do it because it's linked to Google Apps, and doesn't know how to delete it but not to worry, it's "an empty container." Seriously? The creator of the app doesn't know how to delete the account?
I have no ill will towards this service and guy, but I would advise against this app until he gets his priorities straightened out.
Yay!

Ok, well first off I think this app is awesome. I decided to put a passcode lock on it though, and now unfortunatly when I type it in, it doesn't work and it just sort of stays in the box and nothing happens. Can someone tell me how to fix this or reset the app or something?
Love it!

Love the app! Just remember to log into the mywritingnook website to activate the syncing and your good to go. Best app I've downloaded so far.
Awesome

Version: 1.8.2
This app is perfect for writing!!!! Especially 2nd drafts and editing.
Suggestion: a way to use bold, italics, or underline. That would make the app PERFECT!!
Good but

Version: 1.8.2
Spellcheck and italics would be perfect.
Well done, could use a few new features

Version: 1.8.2
This is a very solid app that functions as advertised. I've been using it for two months to write a novel and the integration with the web site works well. The developer is also responsive - very cool. A few features would really help:
• The slightest bit of formatting. Just bold and italics would be helpful
• As mentioned by others - integration with a thesaurus
• Ability to use shortcuts for frequently used words.
nice

Excellent, simple interface. Loads faster than Note Pad! Sync works fine, not sure what the other reviewers are having trouble with.
Great app...Avatar change?
River2499
Version: 1.7.0
This is an useful app for writers and I would recommend it highly.
It is great to have the new updates-- however, is there anyway to change the avatar back to the previous one with the black bkgd? The blue bkgd is not as clean looking imo & previoulsy this app matched the color scheme of the story tracker app, which was nice visually to have the two apps complimentary to each other.
Great App

Truly a great well thoughtout app. I use it just about everyday. I have submitted some suggestions and the programer really listened. Look there are lots of writing programs our there. I've tried most of them. This is solid and doesn't distract you from just writing, wheten those creative juices start a flowin'. Isn't that what you really want in a writing program. Simple to use and very powerful.

Simply the most useful application I have on my IPod Touch. Since my wife's computer went belly up and I gave her mine to use, I've been using MWN for my writing. I love it!
Love it!

I'm one of those big ideas kind of people and I always have ideas popping in my head. Now I can put them in the app since I always have my phone with me. This app is very professional and set up really well. I'm very happy!
Great for NaNoWriMo!

Version: 1.1
Picked this up for NaNoWriMo and am so glad that I did. The documents open And sync very quickly. I love being able to work on my novel on my desktop, laptop, or iPhone and not worry about copying it over or remembering where I left off. I had an idea pop into my head in the dentist's office, I added it to my story using the app, then synced it. When I got home, I was able to access my updated novel online and continue working. So happy!
Really great and useful!

This was one of the first apps I downloaded when I got my iPod, since I like to write so much. It's very helpful and it's the best thing to use if you don't have your laptop with you. It's even better now that I can email myself or other people the things that I've written I just wish it was more compatible with Word. I would love to put snippets of things that I write in Word documents, but once I get the email, they're in completely different format so there's a lot of work to be done, just to change it so it's format is normal. Compatibility with Word would make this amazing! But other than that one little thing it's great to use, and very helpful!

Version: 1.1
Great app especially for Nanowrimo. There were a couple of bugs that have been resolved. The developer is quick to respond to questions. I really like how easy it syncs to the website and the ability to modify files from anywhere.
I'm prolific

Version: 1.2
This app has turned me into a prolific writer! I love it. To the guy having trouble getting set up - figuring out how to set it up to synch with the web app wasn't immediately obvious to me either, but I went to the support page and it was very helpful. I was set up in no time. The developer is also very responsive to questions via email.
Very good

Version: 1.2
I picked this app up for NaNoWriMo. When I'm traveling via public tansportation or anywhere else I don't want to use or bring my laptop this application is perfect. Easy to use and works really well. I use the web version for writing on my desktop too. The biggest thing I would like to see is a way to do an email backup (like the web version). With that feature this would be a five star application.
EDIT: Now that I can send a backup to my email like the website this is a five star application!
Great but won't sync
mongrelized
Version: 1.1
This app is simple, elegant, easy to use, and entirely awesome EXCEPT for one thing -- it won't sync. I really hope this gets fixed soon. I will review again then 'cause I'd love to give this 5 stars.
This App Has Legs

Version: 1.0
Such a great idea and so well executed! You really can write anywhere and always have access to your docs. It's simple and elegant and is useful for work and play (business writing and recreational/journaling/short stories/whatever writing I want to work on). Grateful to the person who thought of this idea and made it happen! Well worth the cost of the app!
Good concept, but bugs need addressing
jeffdep
Version: 1.0
Title says it all, two glitches at this point - google login doesn't like logins that don't end in google.com (best guess that is the glitch, login verified working on google directly), sync fails. And the enter your title overlay that pops up when you first use the keyboard button in the editing screen will get lost if you rotate the device while the entry field is on the screen. You can't see what you are typing and can't click to submit it or to close the dialogue box. I can see the promise in this though so I'll rate again when the initial bugs are addressed, great concept. Looking forward to the next release.
Very handy

Version: 1.0
Exactly what I hoped it would be! I do have a feature request though, since I often use this to jot notes in a journal. Can we get an "insert date/time" button?
Great for writers on the go

It's very clean and easy to use. The fact that it syncs with the website is incredibly useful. I've been looking for something like this!
