PubSearchPlus
+ unlimited search results
+ full-text articles
+ EZProxy support
+ button to email search results
================================
PubSearchPlus is a fast, efficient search tool for scientists, medical professionals and students who rely on the ability to quickly access the millions of research papers indexed in PubMed. By combining a simple, efficient user interface with fast access to the PubMed database, PubSearchPlus lets you concentrate on finding the research articles you need without getting in your way.
PubSearchPlus includes EZProxy support so that (* IF YOUR INSTITUTION USES EZ-PROXY *), you can have fulltext access to any journal indexed on PubMed that your Institution / University subscribes to, even when you are away from your local network.
=========================
A NOTE ABOUT EZPROXY SETTINGS :
Typically EZProxy URLs are of the form:
https://www.lib.uwo.ca/cgi-bin/ezpauthn.cgi?url=%@
The first bit (https://www.lib.uwo.ca/cgi-bin/ezpauthn.cgi) points to the institution's login screen for EZProxy... the second bit (?url=%@) is something that PubSearchPlus requires in order to pass on the URL for the article to the institution's EZProxy system so that after login, you get taken to the fulltext page. Each institution has a different URL for EZProxy, but they should all be of the above format.
Please check with your librarian to determine the appropriate URL for your institution.
Typically when you're on your institution's local network (e.g. using your devices wifi)... you shouldn't need the EZProxy settings activated at all, you should get fulltext. Again, some institutions are different in this respect.

Sometime this summer a wiseacre commenter (we get a few) suggested we do a "Five Apps" for a variety of somewhat offbeat topics. One wasn't so far-fetched however: gastroenterologist. One could say that a gastro doc has about the same needs as any doctor, of course, and that's an easy out. So here are 5 apps that are great for gastroenterologists and possibly any medical specialist... Coming soon: 5 apps for the lemur owner. Epocrates Rx - This free app looks up drugs and is updated weekly. Epocrates [iTunes link] has already been available for other mobile platforms for a while, this is a must-have for physicians, I would think. There's also a Pro version that is designed for medical professionals, and it requires a yearly subscription fee to work. It's $99 for one year, which is pretty reasonable for what this does -- which includes an amazing pill ID tool.

This is a great little app, does what it says. Fast and efficiently. Definitely does NOT crash all the time, whoever wrote that other review has some alterior motive
Crashes

Weak..

Version: 1.3
Not worth downloading, much less paying for. Search options lacking (ie, Mesh), display very basic. Better off using web based pubmed search.
Not much use...

Version: 1.3
This is not even close to computer searches of the same terms on pub med. Not helpful at all at this point. Hopefully upgrades can improve this as it only takes up icon space thus far.
Top Notch

Very useful if you frequently search the literature. As a biology major, I find this app to be an excellent tool. It automatically provides the full text resourses through my university's access. It is easy to use, and I usually find what I am looking for very quickly. I have experienced the app shutting down when loading a lot of results. That could be fixed, but it has not been a major issue for me. Also, while I can usually find what I am looking for, it would be faster if they added an advanced search interface.
Excellent

Version: 1.3
Simple, intuitive, does what it says. As a university prof, this is one of my most used apps. For those who are complaining that they can't get full text, it's pretty clear both from the instructions and logically that you need institutional access either through VPN or a proxy.
Don't buy. Crashes constantly.

Get pubmed on tap instead.
Great tool for medical journals

I've been waiting anxiously for PubSearchPlus to come out so I could use the EZProxy support to access full articles. I just installed it, and I'm very pleased so far. I expected the EZProxy setup to be somewhat tricky, but on my first try it worked like a charm. Pulled up my login page and on logging in I immediately had access to the article's full text. In fact, the interface far surpasses the web browser based UI used by my institution in terms of simplicity and ease of use. Worth the $3.
This would be wonderful if it worked

Version: 1.0
Unfortunately it doesn't. I tried plugging in my school's server and all I got was the page asking me to login, loading just like it does in safari. $3 well spent. If you go to the developer's site, and click on the link for pubsearch plus it takes you right back to itunes. In summary: this software is a great IDEA, but is currently no more useful than the free version. If it is still the same version from sept. 29, SAVE YOUR MONEY.
When it works...it's great

Version: 1.2
So far, I have found that it only sporadically works-it freezes on first startup at times and many times it will not even search (you type in search term and it does nothing).
I hope the developer will release an upgrade soon to solve these problems-I gave found that when it actually works, the full text is very nice to have (and it does work fine with our institutional access).
Great idea

Version: 1.2
I bought it, and I love the concept, but the application suffers a lot of crashes. I hope the authors correct these errors soon, because this could be a very nice product.
Great App!!! Simple, Quick, & Intuitive.

Version: 1.0
I upgraded from the basic version of PubSearch to Pubsearch Plus. PubSearch Plus is the perfect app for anybody in the clinical science arena – esp. those working in an academic center. PubSearch Plus essentially places all (institution) subscribed journals right in your pocket with Abstracts & FULL TEXT options. No crashes or freezes to date. Great App all around!!!
what is the difference between this one and the original??
Mikoula
Version: 1.0
Absloutly nothing!!! they would not give you a full access to reasearch articles like they claim it to be, they at least they made it sound that way.
