RunKeeper uses the GPS technology found in the iPhone 3G/3GS to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS watch at a fraction of the cost.

The intuitive and easy-to-use interface of the app makes it easy to track how far you went, how long it took, what your pace/speed was, how many calories you burned, and the path you traveled on a map.

Once your activity is completed, the data is synced to the RunKeeper website (www.runkeeper.com) where you can view a history of all of your activities, and cumulative totals of all of your vital stats. You can also share your progress with friends by posting your activities to Facebook and Twitter, and creating a profile page that allows people to view all of your public activities.

** RunKeeper is only compatible with the iPhone 3G/3GS **

Features:
* Activity Tracking
No need for an expensive, standalone fitness tracking device when you can use your iPhone 3G or 3GS to do the same thing. Now you can track how far you went, how long it took you, and the route you traveled right from your iPhone

* Personal Dashboard
Store all historical activities on runkeeper.com, where you can keep track of totals and monitor your progress

* Maps integration
See the exact path you traveled on a map, both on the device and on our website

* Activity Sharing
Share your activities with friends via email, or by posting them to your favorite social sites, including Facebook and Twitter

* Music
You can listen to the iPod during your activity, and even change tracks without leaving the RunKeeper application

* iPod Integration
Choose one of your iPod playlists to start automatically the moment you begin your activity

* Audio Cues
Get time or distance-based updates through your headphones during your activity

* Interval Workouts
Create a workout built from intervals of time and/or distance, and let the audio cues coach you every step of the way

* Geo-tagged Photos
Take photos without having to stop your activity. Photos are geo-tagged so when you view them on RunKeeper.com, they appear on the map right where you took them

* No Advertisements

Apps to kickstart your New Year's resolutions
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sun, 01 Jan 2012 20:15:00 UTC +00:00
With the first day of the new year falling on a Sunday, it's is a great day to organize whatever resolutions you've made. Here are a few apps to get started with. I'm spending my day getting my tasks lined up in 2Do ($6.99), which is one of the most reasonably priced to-do apps; it not only looks nice but packs in a lot of features. We took a look at the app in October and were impressed with the intuitive interface. I keep it synced between my iPad and iPhone using Dropbox. If you're looking to cut down on paperwork and implement a scan-to-cloud solution, you can invest in a Doxie Go for quick and painless scanning to the cloud service of your choice. If you already have a scanner or multi-function printer but you'd like to move to cloud storage of your scans, give the $19.99 ScanDrop for the Read More
RunKeeper gets a major upgrade
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Mon, 31 Oct 2011 15:00:00 UTC +00:00
RunKeeper, the free fitness tracking app, just received a major upgrade that was announced this morning. The app has been gaining a lot of attention since mid-summer, when the company launched a Health Graph API that developers have been using to integrate RunKeeper capabilities into third-party apps and devices. That's not keeping the RunKeeper team from keeping an eye on the core mobile app, and the upgrade shows that RunKeeper is listening to the desires of the user community. So what are the changes? Auto Pause takes care of one common problem with apps that record your running, cycling and walking. When you stop running to tie a shoe, talk to a neighbor, wait for a traffic light to change, or take a picture of the snake that just crossed your path, you need to remember to pause the app's timer. If you don't, you'll find that your average speed for Read More
Fitbit Ultra: An unobtrusive fitness tracker
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Mon, 03 Oct 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
I'm a lazy blogger. For most of the day, my exercise consists of clicking and typing, then heading down the stairs for another cup of coffee. Over the years I've blogged about my various attempts and methods of tracking exercise and calorie intake with iOS apps, but I find that I get frustrated with how much work is involved just in tracking what I'm doing. The Fitbit Ultra (US$99.95, announced and available today) might be the unobtrusive fitness buddy I've been looking for. Using my iPhone for tracking fitness walks, I have to remember to start up the app (RunKeeper), pause if I stop for a rest or to chat with someone, stop it when I get home and then type in a tag for the exercise. Since these types of apps use location services, they tends to suck down my battery quickly, which is the reason I've had a Mophie Read More
Nike+ not working? Nike says sorry, and is working on the problem
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Fri, 02 Sep 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
If you're a Nike+ user and you've been experiencing issues with the service lately, you're not alone. According to TechCrunch, enough users have been having problems with Nike+ over the past few months that Nike has sent an email to users apologizing for the service's troubles and promising a fix. Jayme Martin, VP and GM of Nike Running, confessed to users that "Just like you, we hold ourselves to incredibly high standards, and right now Nike+ isn't living up to them." Immediate fixes outlined in Martin's letter: "As of today we have increased login speed and eliminated a majority of login failures. We have improved your ability to sync devices, log runs and post information to Facebook. We are also working on a new version of the Nike+ GPS app that will be released shortly. It will introduce some great new features and address some of the recent bugs." Martin also Read More
Thousands RSVP for Global Group Run on Meetup
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Thu, 23 Jun 2011 14:16:23 UTC +00:00
by Fitness app developer RunKeeper, which released its Health Graph API to the public earlier this month, has partnered with Meetup to organize a worldwide group run on July 9. So far more than 1,700 RunKeeper enthusiasts have signed up for runs in 734 cities. The largest of these will be held in London, with 45 scheduled to attend, followed by RunKeeper’s hometown, Boston, with 43 RSVPs. Participants will meet at designated locations throughout the day and record their runs using one of RunKeeper’s apps for iPhone, Android or Windows 7, or certain GPS-enabled devices such as Garmin watches. RunKeeper CEO Jason Jacobs compares the initiative to Nike’s annual Human Race initiative, which organizes 10Ks for hundreds of thousands of Nike+ enthusiasts in more than 25 cities. Those unable to attend one of the organized races can still participate by logging their run using a device with Nike+ integration. What’s impressive Read More
Nike+ GPS App Free for a Limited Time [In Brief]
Mini_discussion_bubble Lifehacker - Posted Mon, 23 May 2011 16:30:00 UTC +00:00
iOS: iPhone users looking to get a bit extra out of their daily jogs should definitely check out the Nike+ GPS app, which has been around for awhile but is available free for a limited time (though we don't know how limited). With it, you can track your pace, distance, and running route using the iPhone's GPS sensor, whether you're running an actual route or just around an indoor track. It can also give you voice feedback, keep a record of your best runs, and integrate with quite a few social networking features designed to keep you motivated. And, since it no longer requires that chip in your shoe, pretty much anyone can use it. Hit the link to check it out, and if you aren't a fan, be sure to check out the now-free RunKeeper as an alternative. [iTunes App Store via App Shopper] Read More
RunKeeper Pro for iPhone Now Permanently Free

RunKeeper Pro – one of the leading fitness tracking apps for iPhone – is now a permanently free app! The app has been offered for free by its developers during the month of January. A very cool move to start the new year, especially for an app that has a standard price of $9.99. And now they’ve made an even bigger move, and made it free for good. Perhaps the best thing about this news is that it really sounds like a win-win for the developers and potential users of the app. Here’s the lowdown on this from a post at the RunKeeper Blog: When we made the RunKeeper Pro mobile app free for the month of January, we hoped it would help all of you with your New Year’s resolutions, and get more people off the couch to work toward your fitness goals. Today’s the Day for Keeping Your New Year’s Resolution

posted by D. St. Charles on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 9:17 am.   Many people are waking up today hungover, tired or maybe bloated from holiday excesses.  Perhaps after their heads clear a bit, they’ll remember today is January 1st, the day to start keeping their New Year’s resolutions.   Two-thirds of the population don’t bother even making resolutions, but for those who do, the most popular choice for self-improvement is weight loss or getting fit, and fitness app devs are eager to push their wares. The makers of RunKeeperPro are now offering their app, regularly $9.99 and never discounted, for free through January.  I first reported on this app back in November, with a follow-up after my real life experience.  It tracks your time, distance, splits and pace while sending updates to your friends via Facebook.  It also allows for customized workouts and iPod integration.  It works with the iPad, iPod Touch Read More

Nike+ GPS for iPhone updated with Facebook support
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Sat, 09 Oct 2010 14:43:17 UTC +00:00
Here’s one for the iPhone ownin’ exercise fans who at the same time love Nike brand and their sports equipment… The number 1 Health and Wellness app on iTunes, Nike+ GPS, which uses accelerometer and GPS to track your running routes, MPH and calories burned, has been updated recently. The main new thing of this release is a neat Facebook integration. If you write that you’re going for a run on Facebook, your buddies can now “cheer you on,” prompting stadium applause to play in your headphones during a workout. The new feature works in conjunction of the existing voice-prompted encouragements, which is a Powersong feature to give you a boost… And that’s about it. If you’re into running around the city (or around your area), Nike+ GPS is one of the apps worth considering buying for your iPhone. Similar apps that are available in the AppStore include Jog Log, LogYourRun, Read More
Going The Distance: Nike+ GPS Vs. RunKeeper

As someone who ostensibly tries to keep fit, I’ve found the best way to pretend to lose weight is to fiddle around with iPhone apps during my workout. First, it reduces the mind-crushing pain of exercise and allows me to go to a place in myself where I can avoid the boredom of exertion. To that end I decided to test out the new Nike+ GPS app alongside an old favorite, RunKeeper. Both apps have their pluses and minuses. Clearly RunKeeper is aimed squarely at the professional or at least obsessive runner, while the Nike+ software is aimed at a more casual user. Both have their value in the training arsenals of the average runner, and many of the hardware-specific features of Nike+ have been stripped out of the new GPS version, thereby putting both apps on equal footing.Interface When Nike+iPod came out in 2006 it essentially redefined the sports app. Read More

With the introduction of FaceTime video calls, multitasking, and the high resolution Retina display, the iPhone 4 has moved even further away from being just a powerful phone and web-surfing device. Now more than ever, the iPhone is a true lifestyle-enhancing accessory. Between the built-in features and the hundreds of thousands of options in the App Store, not to mention a few key accessories, the iPhone 4 can be figuratively formed and changed to fit your daily needs, whether you’re planning your daily commute, knocking out items on your to-do list, or simply looking to try a new restaurant. Before the iPhone came out, I ran with a watch that uses GPS satellite technology to keep tabs on my pace, distance and other measurements when I run. Like a lot of runners, I’ve gotten hooked on the ability to tally up how many miles I put in on the road and to use my watch to motivate myself to run a bit farther or faster. The Adidas miCoach These days ordinary smartphones have GPS built into them and developers are creating apps that use the technology for tracking runs. Plus some of the apps do a lot more than a GPS watch: They can help you devise a training schedule prior to races and more actively coach you during your runs. I spent a couple of weeks using three running apps for the iPhone—Running Method’s Run Coach Pro, FitnessKeeper’s RunKeeper Pro and Adidas’ miCoach—with the goal of seeing whether any Read More

Marathon Rookie: RunKeeper for the iPhone is a Keeper

There are so many things to love about this application, here are some of my favorties: 1. The application use the iPhone built in GPS to map your workout and the provides an comprehensive summary at the end of your workout. You can also upload your workout summary to your personal account on runkeeper.com, share with your friends. 2. The second reason I love this application is the ability to setup multiple types of training workout. One of the things that I needed was an interval timer because I was using the walk-run technique and I needed a tool to remind when to make the switch without having to look at a watch all the time. I also avoided having to spend $50+ on a wrist watch, when I could have the functionality for $9.99 Among other things: * You can take pictures of your favorite places along your workout route Read More

Yes, I do believe you will be able to run multiple exercise applications at once when multitasking arrives. Sorry, but prettiness is worthless without functionality. I can get more and better features for same cost with RunKeeper Pro (http://bit.ly/27ulg4) or for half the cost with Jog Log (http://bit.ly/a5nD6S), both of which has training workout intervals. The single most important thing my iPhone has done for me, at least app-wise, is help me stay in shape. Sure, I get a lot of use out of my Twitter and Facebook apps, and I certainly play a lot more mobile games than I used to, but those items really aren’t all that important to me, and I could definitely do without them. The one thing I can’t do without is an exercise tracking app, and over time I have to admit I have used quite a few. I recently settled on RunKeeper Pro for my exercise needs, but after meeting with Abvio‘s CEO Steve Kusmer at Macworld 2010 and getting a hands-on demonstration of Runmeter, I am beginning to rethink my choice again. Runmeter is a full-featured exercise app that truly allows you to get the most efficient workout possible thanks to a few really neat features. Like most Read More
FitnessKeeper introduces enhanced RunKeeper website

If you're a RunKeeper iPhone user, you'll be pleased to learn that the makers of the app and its supporting website have introduced a new service called RunKeeper FitnessReports. Like the normal RunKeeper web service, it uses the iPhone data you collect during your runs that are posted to the site. An optional subscription service, FitnessReports emphasizes what Founder and CEO Jason Jacobs calls "actionable intel." He told TUAW, "FitnessReports enables you to see how your key metrics are trending over time, spot areas for improvement, and see how your performance compares to others on your RunKeeper Street Team." In English, that means that you can more intensely analyze exactly how your runs are going. The new service, which will cost $4.99 a month (or $19.99 for the first year, if you sign up during their introductory special), provides tools that, according to Jacobs, "drive ongoing improvements to your fitness performance," Read More

The $9.99 pro version of RunKeeper [iTunes link] serves as a nice alternative to Nike+, especially for the interval-training minded runner. While the Nike+ kit serves a means to an end for many runners, it may not suit everybody's needs. There's the additional cost of the transmitter and receiver (USD $30) for iPod nano owners -- iPhone and iPod touch owners need only purchase the transmitter for USD $19. Then there's the cost of Nike running shoes, which are the only shoes that accommodate the Nike+ transmitter; or as a workaround, you could get a pouch that fits the transmitter on your shoelace; and these usually run about $10. And then there's the issue of accuracy. I personally find a calibrated Nike+ kit very accurate. For instance, during a 4 mile run (I mapped out the trail on walkjogrun.net prior to running) RunKeeper Pro showed that I ran 3.95 miles while Read More

Tracking a run is easy with this app.  It took about 20-30 seconds from when the app was launched on my iPhone 3G to obtain a good or excellent GPS signal.  From there, all you have to do is hit the green “start” button and go.  The simple approach to this app is welcomed, as there  isn’t many options to configure are Read More
Four killer iPhone apps for runners

The Get Running app lives up to its name, gradually guiding you from couch to 5K. I used to run without music. Then I started bringing along an MP3 player. And finally I caved in to strapping my iPhone to my arm. Sure, it's a little unwieldy, but it's comforting to have a phone with you just in case you need a sag wagon. And don't forget the apps. Your iPhone can double not only as an iPod, but also a GPS watch, a route map, and a personal trainer. Here's my list of must-have apps for new and seasoned runners alike. OK, race fans: your turn. What apps do you take on the run? And what's your preferred method of carrying your iPhone? Armband case? If so, which one? Hit the comments to talk apps, gear, and, if you want, running in general! Don't hesitate to buy !
Audio-phile 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.0.14
This application has saved me money ! I was intending on buying a nike + kit and a small holder for the unit to tie to my non-nike shoes. That would have cost me over $30. AND, I needed an interval watch for my training (running) which would have run me another $30. Instead, I got my iphone to speak my intervals to me, track my run, read me my pace, graph my improvement, AND play my running playlist all at the same time. All for only $10. It worked seamlessly and I sincerely wish that all my other iphone apps worked as well. Thank you RunKeeper for one of the best designed apps I've seen yet !
Six Star App
drcain 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.0.12
One of the few, best-of-the-best apps for the iPhone. And if I had my money back, I wouldn't hesitate buying this again.
"Good"...I'd like to think of it as the beginning of something potentially "great"
danbdill 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.0.7
First off, this is the best running app on iPhone at present.
High Hopes Dashed
air4ce1 3.0 stars Version: 1.5.0.7
I was really hoping this app was going to replace my Garmin 305 so I can limit the "stuff" I have to take with me when I run. I should have listened to other reviewers that had a Garmin and complained about the accuracy. I did six 5-mile runs to test this out and compared the results to my Garmin 305 on routes I had previously calibrated. RunKeeper was consistently off by about 1/2 mile by the end of the runs. The signal cut out a lot during my runs (pace went to zero many times) and like others have mentioned when the signal gets picked back up the program doesn't capture that lost distance ... you lose it!! That caused my overall avg pace to be off by 30 sec/mile over the course of the 5-mile run! I love the features like audio updates and facebook updates, but if it's not accurate I can't use the app for my training. For those that don't care too much about accuracy, this is a nice little app. But if you are training for something specific (a marathon in Nov for me) and every hard-earned mile counts, then this app is not the one for you. In all fairness, I don't know if the accuracy issues are a function of the iphone GPS capability, or the RunKeeper Pro software so I kept my rating at about average. I'll test the app as new versions come out and hopefully the accuracy issues can be resolved. For now, it's back to the Garmin for me.
One Word - Phenomenal!!!
newmacs 5.0 stars Version: 1.5.0.7
I was reluctant at first to try this out. I had a garmin forerunner 405 and was completely happy with it. However I had bought the iPhone 3GS and stumbled upon this app. I made an impulse purchase and just went ahead and bought the pro version. All I have to say is best impulse buy EVER! No buyers remorse here. Wow...this thing was spot on accurate with my garmin. I'm selling my garmin on eBay right now. No sense in carrying around my iPhone and the garmin when the runkeeper is just as accurate! I found that for a 3-mile run it eats up about 10% of battery life but that also included me listening to Bluetooth headphones(jaybird 200s). This app is also different than the others in that you and LOCK your screen with the iPhone's sleep/wake button to conserve battery! Accuracy, voice feedback, and now interval training! Just get the app and start running and never look back! 5 stars!!
Beats Nike+
conigs 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.8
While the motivational audio cues of Nike+ are nice, Run Keeper just does so much more. I'm only a novice runner, just getting back into it. But Run Keeper has been invaluable. Being able to map my runs and even bike rides & hikes has been great. It's surprisingly accurate even in my neighborhood with lots of trees. I'm looking forward to future updates and the increased functionality they'll bring.
Best app for the I phone period!
AE5280 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.8
This app has totally justified having an Iphone. I never write reviews for an application but this app is so good I had to make a comment. If you are even semi-active in outdoor sports this app is a must have. For anyone who mountain bikes forget the $100 dollar electronics this app has you covered. The fact that I can still use my I pod with this app running for two hours and not put a dent in my battery is killer. It works perfect and its website have all the data and map for all of your rides. I can not say enough about this app, now everyone in the CO is asking me to go on rides with them just so I can use the app and log the ride. Awesome app, great website, totally happy with the price. Thanks for making it. If you could somehow link the info into facebook or export it to email, it would make it that much better.... overall amazing.
Worth more than its price
coalincash 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.8
This app has continuously kept surprising me and I was one of the first buyers of this app before there was even a free one. The developers really are down to earth people and I have yet to see a feature that hasn't been implemented in a reasonable way. They are runners just like us, and will keep making this application better and better.
BOOOO!!!
njRUNNER 1.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
poor poor use with itunes. app DOES NOT run in the background, if you inadvertantly leave the program during a run...you will lose your run!!! It also dosen't do ANYTHING different than the free version.
Great application
freyes01 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.8
I started using the free version but after a month I decided to buy the pro version to support the developer. After few months using it now I can't go out an run without it. Highly recommended!
Love This Product!
Dustwel 5.0 stars Version: 1.4.8
I've been using RunKeeper Pro for about a month and a half. It's an invaluable tool during my runs, and it really lets me see where I'm making improvements. The recently released build has made great improvements to stability and battery life. I ran 2 1/2 hours with RK Pro and music playing and still had about 40% battery remaining! The audio cues on the pro version are great, looking forward to seeing what other features are rolled out!!
This is great!

Jumbo47 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Tried today for 2 walks and one run seemed very accurate and made the activity more fun
Drops recording
chumming 2.0 stars Version: 1.3
This app is constantly dropping the signal. I have only been able to record three runs out of 20. Once you start it up it grabs a signal but drops it. But, I have to keep it running so that I at least have a time record. I would not buy this until they have figured out these bugs and given you a product that is dependable
Runkeeper Pro
philoserf 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
After using the free version for awhile I bought the pro version to support the developer. The program works a lot better than the others I tried.
This app rocks!
Gwdesign-socal 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I love this, even tweets runs. The web companion site is really great, lots of features

Like a garmin but $200 cheaper
MDOG 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
This app is definetly worth 10 my dad has a garmin and we ran side by side and compared my phone was dead on accurate the voice thing is awesome all it really needs is a way to conserve battery life otherwise great app way worth the money
The perfect running mate next to a real person 
BruceLee 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Runkeeper pro is an excellent piece of software that does a fantastic job at tacking your run. It's precise ok your location and distance ran. The audio tone that is activated simply by touching the interface is a great feature so you don't have to put your arm in a awkward position trying to get a readout from your armband if your using one. Runkeeper not only gives you a workout summery on your iPhone but it also takes a step further on there website and breaks down the details for you. You are also able to share your runs on twitted and I hope soon on facebook. You can also track your past history workouts on your computer or iPhone aswell Right now the app is a battery hog because it has to stay on. But with the new update you will be able to hit the lock key at the top that way you can save battey life while using this awesome app A must buy for any runner 
Easily the best software out there.

I really like RunKeeper. Liked it enough that I purchased the pro version. I have a few thousand words review comparing this with other applications here. http://bit.ly/Zc3U.
Do Not Buy!

Great

Best running app

I was too late to get the app before it cost money. This app got me inspired to start running!! Love it!!!
Great app
Thriftygal 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Hands down this is my favorite and most used app. The developer is very accessible. Worth the money. Note: turning off wifi helps save the battery life.
Excellent Features
DRBallard 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
This app is great, and the developer is making constaint additions to the features. Highly Recommended! Worth the $9.99.
Good But Could Use Some Polish
silver31u 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
Overall this app is solid with a good website feature. I would like to see an improved interface. Numbers need to be larger so can be readable on the run and I'd like to see a real time map display.
Great App!
mophor 4.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
5 Stars when it shows calories at the iPhone! Of course it would be nice if we would be able to turn the device off but I know that’s not your fault... It would be nice if you would turn down the backlight a little bit when its locked... Another nice idea would be if you exit and it pauses that it automatically calculates the way and speed you probably ran and adds it to the result (maybe some people wouldn’t like this so it would be nice to be able to select this in the settings).
Best App on the iPhone
RodnKim 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
This App is great. It does exactly what it promises. I used it for the first time today and when I got home, I assumed I'd have to upload my run to the computer, but it was already done for me. Well done!
Great App. You need this if you are a runner!
jruphoff 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
This is a great application. The old version was good but they have made it even better. Nice website plus map and elevation info make this a complete running companion. Highly recommended. I can also say from experience that the guys running this thing are great. very helpful and responsive. They are quick to fix bugs and friendly to talk to.
RunKeeper Pro is a great product
HappyNewb 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I am just starting to jog and figured I would try this app out since I use my iphone for music when I jog. Turned on my music, started the runKeeper Pro app up and took off. I was not positive if it would work well since I run in a wooded park. Got home and uploaded the work out to the web and wow...it had the route I ran on a google map, milage, speed and elevation. The nice thing about the map is it allows me to see in a differrent way what I did and help me to figure out routes that will help me improve my distance. The accuracy is not dead on but it is pretty dang close. I would highly recommend this product....10 bucks is nothing compared to the value you will get out of this product.
Love it!

This program does exactly what it is sold to do. For over a year I've wanted a GPS watch to track runs but didn't want to pay $300 or more. Now I don't have to. I'm VERY happy with this program! Thanks to the developer!
Need a pedometer
Stichrunner 2.0 stars Version: 1.3
It would be nice if this app had a step meter that work indoors like at the gym on a treadmill
Rarely is able to determine my location
chaswhite 1.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
Only once out of ten tries has this app been able to determine my location. It just keeps saying it is trying to determine location even though phone says GPS signal is moderate. Neighbor has the same problem. $10 and it does not work!
An App that is Useful AND Fun
Hub City Prairie Dog 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
With so many games and entertainment apps, it is refreshing to see an app that can change your life (or at least your lifestyle). This app has made me a dedicated runner. I am in better shape now than I have been in years. After each run, you can tell your distance, time, speed, and a map of your route. It has basic statistics that can be accumlated and accessed on the iPhone and detailed statistics (such as caloric burn and altitudes) that can be accessed on the web. Avid users will want to become part of the blogging community on the web. Doubts on whether it will fit your workout style? Start with RunKeeper Free. After a month, you wil know whether the paid version is for you.
LOVE THIS APP!
msheathrs 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I bought this app about a week ago and used it for the first time today. I am very impressed!! It kept accurate info, is easy to use while listening to your ipod, and when you are done, you can send your run info to the runkeeper.com site and track your own data more in depth. It shows you the route on a map, as well as your speed and elevation throughout the entire run, distance, time, even calories burned. I'm a new runner and training for my first marathon, this app will be a great training tool.
Improving with time
olu-bos 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I bought the original RunKeeper when it was the only game in town. I was happy with it, but moved to iMapMyRun due to the better integration with their website. I decided the other day to give RK Pro a try. I'm hooked. The audio updates are AWESOME! It's nice to just tap the screen and hear your stats. I give them 4.5 stars because the website can't compare with MapMyRun yet, so I'm using both at this point.
Best app ever.
aucastle 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I've been using RunKeeper since it came out. To the naysayers complaining about the lock behavior: tap the damn lock icon on the screen! Apple's GPS is buggy, and won't stay on if the phone sleeps; that's why the program includes its own lock functionality. Seriously, few apps on here are as well thought out and beautifully implemented as this one. It's my favorite paid app, and while the price point is higher than some, it's one of only a handful whose value justifies the price.
Great app, just needs a few more features to be awesome
Brian L Smith 4.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I like this app a lot. Simple interface and it just works. Just wish it had a few more options like the following:
Comes w/ website features too
igothandle 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
App automatically uploads (if you enable it) your run to the website where you can view/share your mapped run. Very cool to view run on Google map w/ hybrid mode on.
Awesome App!
Arawak 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I downloaded this app this morning and immediately took it on a 6 mile run in the National Park. I was running mainly on trails so I didn't know if it would work that well since I was in a wooded area without a good view of the sky. When I finished my run and looked at it on the map, it was dead on! It is easily worth the $10. It was great to be able to use my iPhone to listen to tunes while I ran and track my workout and pace with this app. It made me get excited about running!
Great Execution, Fatal Flaws
devPod46 1.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I love the idea of this app, and all of the cool features you could think of are included. But there are some fatal flaws. After three attempts at using this app, I have still not successfully logged a full run.
First attempt at use in a remote area of Oregon was very successful
bendtrailrunner 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I'm pretty new to the iPhone and used this app for a 16 mile run today in the river canyon of the Deschutes out of Warm Springs, OR. I followed the simple directions for set up last night and launched it when I started my run this morning. Pausing and resuming was easy so I could take pictures along the way. I was out for almost 3 hours and the phone said I was below 20% battery when I finished. I have wireless in the house and turned the wireless on the phone back on when I came home. That will be an issue for longer hikes and runs. At home I opened up the RunKeeper Dashboard on my Macbook Pro and found my run already there. I will test it on another run tomorrow. I log all my runs - Coolrunning before it blew up, and now RunningAhead. This app will make logging easier, however, I love to search my runs by course and see the total hours and miles I've done on them. I don't know yet if RK has those features. I don't see a shoe miles feature in RK, which I rely on in RunningAhead and plan my shoe purchases according to the miles. While this is the highest cost app I've bought, I was impressed by the quick response of the developer to questions on the blog and the number of active users commenting on the blog. I have not tried other similar apps and chose this one because it looked the most robust and the most promising for future developments.
The only running app I use
ChrisBlaze 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I've been using this app every since it first appeared in the store. I do like the fact that they sent an email out to all who bought the app to let us know we can download it for free for the first 24hrs. The only reason for 4 stars is because you can't lock the screen I'm order to save battery life. Also, every now and then the gps route shown on the webpage will be off, but thst might be a gps problem and now a software issue. Another grip is even with my screen turned down I'm only able to get about 2.5 hours of running time (I'm sure that playing music doesn't help). I hope they add in support for facebook that will automaticly place a map of your most recent run on your wall. Other than that, good job.
WOW!

i was this close to buying a Garmin runners GPS watch ($200+), but instead i found this little guy. i love this thing. i use it mostly for running and biking. i live in Orange county and this thing never looses signal. just turn your ipod on, start the app, and off you go. thanks runkeeper!

Reedenroe 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I was looking for a Nike+ app for iPhone. Tried a few free apps for running and this is best out there. Much better than nike as well. The web site integration is great, maps perfect, easy to use. Love it; well worth paying and joining the RK community.
Great program!
Legolas 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
This software rocks! It lets me track my run/walk and see if I'm improving or getting slower. I'm not a big athlete or anything, but, even I appreciate being able to prove to my wife (and trainer) how long I walked, and at what speed!
