I was really curious about the Pogo Sketch iPhone stylus when I first heard about it, so when I was offered the chance to review it by the Max Borges agency, the fact that it was the “hot pink” version of the product didn’t really register. This will be the fifth Painting app I’ve taken a detailed look at. I didn’t set out to write a series of reviews on one particular genre of app but after looking at PhotoForge, it happened that I became aware of one interesting app after another. This application is very much worth it. Yeah, it is not a crazy state of the art illustration suite, but it comes as close as it can get based on a mobile device. In fact, you'll be surprised at how much you can do and create with even a slight talent for illustration. Definitely worth it.

I really love this app. This app is very usefull and full of features. I love the fact that it allows you to edit brushes. Now if only they can figure out a way to add filters. I would, however like to be able to add more layers instead of it being capped at three. Even though I'm sure the developers are trying to set this app apart from Photoshop, but the use of overlay, etc. Would be nice to see it applied on the layers.

Okay, so the things that work for this app are 5 star worth (the synthetic pressure sensitivity, the number and quality of brushes, the now-you-see-it-now-you-don't interface). I WANT to love this app, but there are certain things other apps - developed not by mega companies like Autodesk, but little individual developers that embarrass this app in so many ways. 1) 3 layers on a non-3GS. Really. "Brushes" supports 4, and "Layers" supports 5. 3's kinda tight to work with. The biggest bummer - canvas size. 600x400. Kinda useless. The 2 other apps I mentioned have provisions to export the images pretty high res (5000X5000 in "Layers", and 2000X? in "Brushes). 3) 10 undo's. Really? Why? The other apps have virtually limitless undo's. Its a bummer to see and play with an app that gets so many things right, and then goes on to blow it in way that really matter (the canvas size - I just can't get over that).

Sketchbook had always been in an odd spot on the computer, great interface but not functional enough to replace photoshop. On the touch though, this app is great. The interface is perfect for the small size, zooming and resizing is all fluid and the ability to customize and switch between multiple tools so quickly is great. Far and away better than any other painting/drawing app i've tried.

This is my new favorite iPhone application. While Autodesk has done other _cool_ stuff on the iPhone such as Autodesk Fluid, this application is _useful_. A lot of great sketching functionality with an innovative GUI that packs all the power of a desktop application into a very easy to use iPhone while maintaining screen space. This application is far more polished than your average iPhone application. It supports layers, importa and export, transparency, simulated pressure response, a zillion brush options, auto-symmetry aids, and other cool stuff found in the desktop version.

I can't even draw and I can't put this down. So well executed. The algorithm to smooth the lines and curves (they don't look anything like the scraw you usually get when "drawing" on a touch screen device) is nothing short of brilliant.

even with photoshop cs4, and painter and what not, i ALWAYS start my art on sketchbook pro. it is stupifying to now have that ability wherever i am. you guys know interface design for minimialist control better then anybody and it really shines here!
