West Seattle Herald iPhone app brings relevant and most up to date local news and information for the West Seattle region published by the WSH newspaper, which is serving the community since 1923. The app provides news and information in the traditional news as well as in video and image formats. The app had push capability so if the users permit they can get notified of the breaking news stories via push notification on their iPhone and iPod touch devices. Finally, 360News section of the app brings the location driven interactivity to its users by letting them submit their own news stories with multi-media; users can report news important to them - it could be the video about the winning soccer goal their child scored at a soccer tournament or a breaking news they are witnessing live. Their submission once approved by the moderator will appear within the app as well as on YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, www.360ne.ws and CNN iReport websites with their screen name attribution.

WSH app is brought to you by Robinson Newspapers which is a group of eight prize-wiining geographically contiguous weekly publications that have been serving their respective Seattle area communities for as long as 107 years. Palo Alto Online and West Seattle Herald are joining the “mobile app revolution” with their own apps for the iPhone and Android, powered by YAPPER. Both apps feature latest news (with push notifications), photos and videos, while at the same time working as community engagement and social media tools. The last mentioned part is especially interesting, as these apps allow users to submit geo-aware information, stories, photos and videos to the news organization. And once approved, these user-generated story may appear on the news site, in the app as well as on YouTube, Flickr, Twitter, 360News and CNNireport sites with credit going to the user!
