Zagat to the rescue. I had no idea this app existed. I was stuck reading reviews from children complaining about a $20 meal being too expensive. I wont have to base my dinner on the opinions of juvenile delinquents anymore. Hallelujah! Can I get an AMEN?
Reading Is Fundamental 4.0 stars

Please everyone READ THE APP DESCRIPTION BEFORE BUYING. It lists every city the Zagat app has. If your city is not listed, don't buy the app. Don't leave a bad review because you couldn't bother to read for 10 seconds. Spend 1 secnd for every dollar you are spending.
Good for Restaurants 4.0 stars

The Zagat reviews give you enough for a quick decision. You feel good about what you pick. Changing radius is there but not easy to find. Needs more search options. If they list 30 cities and St Louis is not one of them maybe you shouldn't buy it.
New upgrade much better 5.0 stars

Ive been waiting forever for an upgrade. I think it last upgraded last year? It's cleaner and easier to use. The thumbs up recommendations is a good idea. Good value for all the guides. Make sure you read the cities they cover and your good.

I have used Zagat for years and it really didn't cut it on the Treo, but this version on the iPhone is ideal. Nice.
My Favorite App 5.0 stars

Version: 1.1.103
Now my iPhone is complete. This is the first non-free app that I've paid for and it's worth it. I love that you get a real professional review that's short and sweet and sums up the entire restaurant. It uses quotes mixed in from real users for each review. Now I don't have to churn through a bunch of ranting and raves on Yelp's useless application. The big standout are the ratings in Zagat to Go. It uses a 1 to 30 scale for Food, Decor and Service which gives a more accurate picture of what's going on.

I immediately put Zagat to work. We wanted an Italian restaurant for lunch somewhere in the area. Hit update my location, then picked Italian in cuisine and sorted by the highest food scores. A few were in the right price range. A quick look at the "witty" reviews and clicked to reserve a table. Food was good and since the guides are pretty much on target this was worth the 10 bucks already.
Zagat does right 5.0 stars

In another life I had Zagat for Palm. They have come a long way even if there's a little bit of a learning curve. Spend the first couple minutes familarizing yourself. Options to pick the radius for GPS search or change to different city. I didn't understand the default search is location aware nearby but chalk that up to using the palm version for 4 years. Great, easy read restaurant reviews and they are still the best. Boston, Miami, and Atlanta are all right on. I was paying $30 a year for the Palm one so either they dropped the prices because of the economy or iPhone users are getting a steal.
Fantastic. This is a bargin. Better than a bunch of books in your pocket. 5.0 stars

Version: 1.1.103
This was the best review application that I have seen. I liked it much more than Yelp, City Search or Urban Spoon. Zagat's app was easier to use, professional and above all, true to the Zagat brand. I would definitely reccommend using it!!!
Functional but slow, needs finetuning 4.0 stars

Version: 1.2.102
Zagat to Go always seems to take forever to load. Although listings are fairly comprehensive - and I've found some great eateries on the go with this app - they'd be even more so if the app allowed mobile user input, either to rate an existing entry or add a new one. I believe the print edition gives customers a discount on future editions if they provide venue feedback... what about the mobile edition?

Simple and Useful 5.0 stars

Version: 1.1.103
This app is simple and makes a lot of sense. It's the Zagat guides. Find your location or pick a city and it shows all of their restaurant ratings and reviews. What's not to like? It does exactly what you expect it to. Apparently some people expected it to have a famous chef cook you dinner when you start it up. Sorry it doesn't do that. This is the last app of my travel trifecta of Cheap Gas, Trapster, and Zagat. All three make trip great.

I buy a New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles guide for business every year running me 40 dollars. For 9.99 this is a deal. Works well. Does not crash at all on my 3G.

If you live in NYC and you eat out.. Well there really is no choice. Getbtgis app! The Zagat info on your phone is invaluable !! Can't compare to the 'reviews' on yelp and others.

This app seems to function well. I understand why it asks you to update your location upon opening, so that you get the results nearest to you. The search menu takes a bit of getting use to but seems to work well. I wish there were more zagat reviewed restaurants near me but otherwise this app is a good 1.0 release.
Not Perfect 5.0 stars

This is a great application! I am in sales and do a lot of traveling. I have found several Great restaraunts that I would not have found without it. No more lousy meals on the road! The application is slow to load and needs to be updated so it's not perfect but still a great tool.

I've been a longtime fan of Zagat on the mobile platform and used it extensively on my old Treo, despite the Treo's byzantine navigation. The Zagat iPhone web app is slow and very cumbersome, so I've really been looking forward to a real iPhone app. This rev is missing some functionality (e.g., complex filters) and it needs an offline version, which they acknowledge, but otherwise it works very well. I travel a lot on business and often need a quick recommendation for a place to go. I find Yelp's recommendations horribly inconsistent and Urban Spoon's too simplistic. Zagat hits the right balance for me and this application does the basics pretty well. I've used it several times since I got it, both in my home city and while traveling, and it definitely got the job done. I've got a bunch of favorites listed so I'm ready for the next time I travel and am looking forward to the next rev. Overall, there's a lot to like in this app!
It's Zagat, on your iPhone. 'Nuff said. 5.0 stars
By: NoahLH
Version: 1.0
I'm not sure the people here who are comparing Zagat with Yelp or UrbanSpoon really understand what Zagat is: It's the most-respected and well-edited food guide around. It's not just a bunch of individual reviews of places like the 56th St Halal Cart or "The fruit guy on 80th St." - it's a thorough guidebook of the categorically best restaurants in many of the major cities in the USA. If you're not a fooodie or interested in fine dining, that's totally OK but then Zagat is not relevant to you. If, however, you appreciate being able to cut through the garbage out there and genuinely want to find new and interesting restaurants, there is simply no substitute. I've been anxiously awaiting the Zagat guide's arrival on the iPhone and I'm thrilled that it's here. Sure, the app can use some refining and I'm sure it will dramatically improve in future iterations (so I gather the suggestions and feature requests are valuable), but don't skip this just because there are free alternatives out there. Zagat stands on it's own.
In Depth Review- You Should Buy This App. 4.0 stars
By: Time_warp
Version: 1.1.103
Let me save you the time of looking through the 50 or so reviews here. The app is good. Not great. Its much more functional than the print guide but does not provide many iPhone bells and whistles. I would recommend buying it if you want reliable reviews and realize this is a good deal even at 9.99.
A very valuable App, with the most reliable restaurant reviews. 4.0 stars
By: PeteLP
Version: 1.0
IMO, Zagat’s restaurant reviews are the most reliable available from any source, anywhere. Note that Zagat’s ability to make reservations, their display of detailed ratings on food, service, décor and price, their ability to filter on cuisine or neighborhood, and a single overview/description that quickly gives me a very good feel for the restaurant, are all very convenient benefits.
Okay first effort but needs refinement 2.0 stars
By: dsss
Version: 1.0
As a longtime Zagat To Go Blackberry user, I was very excited to see this in the store. Unfortunately while it is a decent first effort, I hope they will continue to refine the functionality as time goes by. My biggest issue is with the way the app manages location. For starters, the app asks you EVERY time you load it, if you want to use location services to update your location which is annoying, especially if you have decided to manually choose your location. The reason I am manually selecting a region is because I discovered than when you use the Zagat GPS location feature, it casts a very small regional net. As an example, I live in Oakland, CA and the app only displayed about half of the available results for Oakland when I had location services active. When I manually went in and choose "San Francisco Region" I received almost double the amount of results in my immediate area.
